Sven Buerki, an associate professor in the Department of Biological Sciences within the College of Arts and Sciences at Boise State University received the Dr. Christopher Davidson Endowed Chair in Botany. Buerki joined the Boise State Department of Biological Sciences in 2017 as part of the newly launched ecology, evolution and behavior doctorate program. He is an internationally recognized scholar of plant evolution, genomics and bioinformatics. In his role as the Dr. Christopher Davidson Endowed Chair in Botany, Buerki will advance botanical knowledge and advocate for ecosystem conservation in the face of climate change and habitat loss. This mission will be pursued through international partnerships, and by training and educating the next generation of biodiversity stewards. For centuries, endowed positions have been regarded as the hallmark of an institution’s long-term commitment to academic advancement and an important recognition of faculty excellence.
