The leading non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives through screening for colorectal cancer

About us

The Colon Cancer Coalition started with one Get Your Rear in Gear race in 2005. What started as one women’s vision has since grown into a national coalition of people determined to end colorectal cancer deaths by increasing screening and educating others about the signs and symptoms of this treatable disease. We want all people to understand their risk factors and get the right screening at the right time. Based in Minneapolis, Minn. the Colon Cancer Coalition is dedicated to encouraging on-time screening and raising awareness of colorectal cancer. The organization’s signature Get Your Rear in Gear® run/walk and Tour de Tush® bike ride series are volunteer-led in communities throughout the United States. In 2017 the organization granted over $1 million dollars back to these local communities to build and sustain programs promoting early prevention and screening, as well as patient support services for this disease. Our grants fund colorectal cancer education, awareness, and prevention programs, colorectal cancer screening initiatives, colorectal cancer patient navigators, as well as support for colorectal cancer patients and their families. By making the words colon, colorectal and colonoscopy a part of the everyday language, we believe we can overcome the fear and decrease deaths from this largely preventable cancer. For more information visit ColonCancerCoalition.org. Mission Statement Empower local communities to promote prevention and early detection of colon cancer and to provide support to those affected.

Thanks to our team for this great work. We found bowel prep to be the #1 reason adults over 45 are hesitant to have a colonoscopy and also the biggest challenge for patients undergoing the procedure. Special appreciation also to the team at Sebela Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Braintree for the support in this project!

National Hereditary Cancer Week (NHCW, Sept. 29 - Oct. 5) and National Previvor Day (Oct. 2) are important reminders of hereditary cancer's impact on families. While we acknowledge the impact that hereditary cancers have every single day on numerous families worldwide, this time of year is an opportunity to spotlight hereditary cancer and spread awareness. Thank you to organizations like FORCE: Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered who are a partner with us in this vital work 💙 Read FORCE’s NHCW article here: https://ow.ly/3ug350TxikN Read our Family History article here: https://ow.ly/qYhc50TxikO

Average-risk patients have many choices for colorectal cancer screening. If you’re 45-75 with no family history or symptoms of colon cancer, your doctor may recommend a non-invasive annual screening like a Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT). Plus, a FIT can be done in the privacy of your own home! With normal FIT results, you will simply repeat the test next year, however, a colonoscopy will be needed for further evaluation if the results come back abnormal. On-time screening for colon cancer can save your life. Talk with your doctor about what options are right for you, and read more about your screening options 👉 https://ow.ly/V1oP50Touur Thank you Polymedco for sponsoring this series💙

Did you know? Health organizations like the US Preventive Services Task Force, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the US Multi-Society Task Force on colorectal cancer have all updated their guidelines for colon cancer screening. These guidelines recommend fecal immunochemical testing (FIT) every year or colonoscopy every 10 years for average-risk adults 45-75. Screening with a noninvasive FIT can be done in the privacy of your home. Getting screened on time can save your life. Talk to your doctor to find out what’s right for you.
