NiSource team members are passionate about supporting their communities through volunteering, and we celebrate those who go above and beyond. We call them our 'Super Volunteers.' Cross Bore Program Leader Jeff Maharowski, based in Pennsylvania, is our latest Super Volunteer. He goes above and beyond by dedicating his time to various charitable causes outside of work. At NiSource, Jeff also serves as president of NiVets, our employee resource group for veterans and supporters. In his free time, he actively volunteers with organizations such as March of Dimes, National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Old Brush Creek Cemetery and youth sports teams. Jeff says his motivation to volunteer began in his youth. "There were various factors that led me to start volunteering. My involvement in the Boy Scouts taught me about community service and gave me many opportunities to volunteer," he said. "I also spent a lot of time volunteering with therapeutic horse-riding programs, as I had horses growing up. My parents were my initial inspiration to volunteer, and now, my kids continue to inspire me to volunteer." Jeff's dedication to giving back shines through. He finds fulfillment in the impact volunteering has on others' lives. "One memorable volunteering experience was when I, along with 25 Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania employees and their families, cleaned veteran headstones last year," Jeff said. "During our work, an elderly Marine veteran approached to thank us, wiping tears from his face. Seeing that was truly touching for everyone present." Reflecting on his volunteering experiences, Jeff encourages others to consider volunteering. "Reach out to your local rec center, 4H or, if you want to help veterans and their families, Rolling Thunder chapters are very active,” he said. Thank you for your commitment and dedication to helping your local community, Jeff.
