On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, #ColumbiaMed honors the memory of the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and the countless others who suffered under Nazi persecution. This day calls us to reflect on the devastating consequences of antisemitism and hatred and challenges us to renew our commitment to confronting bigotry and fostering a world rooted in compassion, tolerance, and justice.

Twenty-one graduate students from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons successfully competed for prestigious The National Institutes of Health (NIH) fellowships in the latter half of 2024. Their achievements were celebrated at a special event that brought together research education leaders, directors of graduate studies, and thesis mentors. #NYP is thrilled to announce the opening of #OchSpine at NewYork-Presbyterian/The Spiral, a new, state-of-the-art spine center where a multidisciplinary team of specialists provide exceptional, comprehensive spine care for children and adults. The new outpatient facility is part of the expansion of #OchSpine, which brings together the world’s top orthopedic and neurosurgical spine surgeons and other spine care specialists to treat all spine problems, from the simple to the complex, using surgical, non-surgical, and minimally invasive treatments for every neck and back condition. The Spiral is the first dedicated spine center where specialists from Columbia University Irving Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine will see patients in the same location. Spanning 50,000 square feet on the second floor of The Spiral, a 66-story tower in Manhattan’s #HudsonYards, this cutting-edge facility offers a one-stop destination for patients to receive individualized, coordinated spine care from diagnosis through treatment, recovery, and rehabilitation. At this year’s #ColumbiaMed Holiday Celebration, faculty and staff gathered to enjoy hot tea, sandwiches, and pastries while contributing generously to our annual Holiday Toy Drive. We also held our second gingerbread house competition. 🎁 Over 100 toys were donated during the event, adding to 800+ toys donated at locations around campus. Congratulations to Deputy Chief of Columbia Cardiology, Dr. Shunichi Nick Homma, for being awarded the prestigious "Order of the Sacred Treasure Gold Rays, with Neck Ribbon" by the Japanese Government! 👏 This recognition highlights Dr. Homma’s outstanding contributions to the Japanese and Japanese-American communities through his leadership roles as President of JAMSNET, President of the Japanese American Association of New York, and former President of the Japanese Medical Society of America.
