Getting a front row seat to the next generation of architects. WSA's Tim Hawk participated as a juror for the Neighborhood Design Center (Columbus) #SummerYouthColab presentations. The selected team's work will be executed as a site activation for the Mid Ohio Food Collective. Congrats to all the Colab members on their work, awesome to see the great ideas coming from these young architects!

We are incredibly excited to work with these talented and driven young designers! For the next 6 weeks, these high school #interns will enter a rigorous program exposing them to essential design and professional development skills ultimately culminating into a final project located here in #columbus. Alongside Directions for Youth & Families, we'd like to welcome you to the team!

We’re excited to announce that nominations are now open for our 2024 Columbus is my Neighborhood campaign! The program provides opportunities to spotlight BIPOC changemakers in the Columbus community, recognizing that every effort, no matter how small, improves the wellbeing of all our neighbors. We've had the privilege to get to know 39 neighbors making an impact in areas such as access to healthy food, healthcare equity, cultural enrichment, and policy advocacy. We're so excited to elevate 10 more individuals this year and hope you nominate a friend, family member, co-worker, neighbor, or mentor who deserves to be honored for their committment and passion to serve. Did you hear? The 3rd cycle of 614 Beautiful Grant Applications are now open! We invite teams of residents and/or community organizations to submit your ideas to beautify Columbus. Selected community-driven and implemented projects can receive up to $15,000 in grants for improvements, including for pocket parks, landscape enhancements, right-of-way improvements, placemaking signage, and public art. Check out the full details by visiting www.614beautiful.org. 614 Beautiful is a partnership program of Columbus City Councilmember Lourdes Barroso de Padilla (Lourdes Barroso de Padilla Columbus City Council), the City of Columbus Department of Neighborhoods (City of Columbus Department of Neighborhoods), and the NDC. The program has funded nearly $200K in improvements to 16 projects citywide by leveraging the power of 66 organizations. We cannot wait to see what else is in store when we all come together to enhance the public realm.

Do you know a work-eligible teenager looking to learn more about design? Applications for the 2024 Summer Youth CoLab (SYC) program are now open! SYC is a 6-week paid design internship of the Neighborhood Design Center for work-eligible youth introducing design concepts and career opportunities. Through activities and field visits, interns will learn about architecture, landscape architecture, city planning & urban design, graphic design, and interior design. Interns will have the opportunity to apply knowledge to the design and implementation of a real-world site in a Columbus neighborhood. From our team at the Neighborhood Design Center, we wish you a healthy and happy holiday season. We look forward to continuing our work and positively impacting communities throughout Columbus and Central Ohio as we move into the New Year! Learn more about one of the 614 Beautiful Program Grant awarded proposals! Columbus public restrooms will get an artistic façade. “They provide assets from everything from our unhoused population to you know, bus drivers or business people who just need to take a break, but they are very functional,” Neighborhood Design Center Director of Community Programs Lisa Snyder said. “So how can you kind of use that canvas and propose something that adds a little bit more aesthetic appeal?”
