About us

Part of a nationwide network, Community Action of Napa Valley (CANV) has been at the forefront of poverty-fighting initiatives in the Valley for 58 years. Now, due to the scale of the problem, the agency is focused primarily on hunger relief. Prior to the pandemic, CANV was distributing 2M pounds of food per year; that has now almost doubled. CANV's Food Bank provides a variety of nutritious food to over 6,000 low-income individuals, seniors, and non-profit organizations throughout Napa County. Additionally, CANV's Meals on Wheels program serves 450 seniors daily. Today, CANV operates the Napa Food Bank, Meals on Wheels for Napa County, Wellness on Wheels, and two licensed pre-schools for low-income students. In accomplishing our mission, part of the Food Bank program is the Napa Food Pantry, which offers seven locations. Helping & empowering people & communities throughout Napa Valley is our mission. To learn how you can assist in advancing the CANV mission, call us at (707) 253-6100 or visit us at canv.org.

Updates

  • Today, we are thrilled to break ground on the CANV Outdoor Learning Center and Playground project, funded through a generous grant from California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), designed by the The Elevate Group with Landscape Nirvana Landscape Design, and brought to life by Napa Roots Landscaping. This project will transform our CANV Kids outdoor area into a vibrant, nature-focused learning space, designed to create a tree canopy that helps lower the extreme heat during Napa Valley summers. The heart of this new space is an outdoor classroom featuring natural resource seating, providing a unique and inspiring setting for educational activities. Specifically designed for pre-K children, the center is valuable for kids of all ages and will be available to the Napa community, offering immersive experiences that promote a connection with nature and a deeper understanding of the environment. Key features of the learning center include various hands-on stations where children can explore planting, germination, pollination, composting, and more. These activities foster essential cognitive, social, and motor skills while inspiring a sense of responsibility towards our natural world. Our goal is to offer a safe, engaging environment that encourages curiosity and a love for learning outdoors. We look forward to watching the CANV Kids explore, grow, and connect with nature in this innovative new space, setting a strong foundation for their future. Special thanks to Evan Jones (CalFire), Daryl Furuya (Landscape Nirvana), Francisco Ledezma, Jose Guitierrez, Jose Luis Benitez, & Roger Valencich (Napa Roots)

  • On this World Mental Health Day, we are reminded of the importance of supporting the emotional well-being of everyone in our community, especially our seniors. 💚 Many seniors in Napa County face loneliness and isolation, which can deeply impact their mental health. At CANV, our Meals on Wheels program not only delivers nutritious meals but also provides meaningful human connection to seniors who might otherwise be alone. Every meal delivered is a moment of kindness, a check-in, and a reminder that they are not forgotten. These visits from our dedicated drivers and volunteers are often the highlight of their day, offering companionship along with their meal. Join us in supporting our seniors' mental health by ensuring they receive the care and connection they deserve. Together, we can make a difference in their lives. 💙 #WorldMentalHealthDay #MealsOnWheels #SupportOurSeniors #MentalHealthMatters #CommunityCare #NapaValley #CANV
