We'll Find a Way!

About us

Community First isn’t just a name – it’s a promise. Driven by the power of ‘people helping people,’ we’ve come a long way since our humble beginnings. Over the course of nearly five decades, our reputation for providing high-quality, competitive and ethically sound financial products and services has evolved to 25 branch locations, over $5.3 billion in assets, and a member base of more than 154,000 strong. Beyond our commitment to fostering financial wellness for all we serve, we recognize our role in positively impacting the economic health, social well-being, and quality of life where our member-owners live and work. To this end, our nearly 600 team members volunteer 20,000+ hours of their time to local nonprofit organizations, community fundraisers, company-sponsored events, and financial literacy efforts each year. One word defines our culture best: Meraki. We operate with heart, soul, love, and creativity, always leaving something of ourselves in our work. Here, everybody counts, everybody cares, everybody delivers, every day. For this reason, we are able to consistently “find a way” for our members, communities, and each other.

From empowering our members with money-saving products and services to building lifelong relationships, serving our communities, and contributing to a supportive culture – the credit union difference is woven into everything we do. So, when we hear how that difference has positively impacted our members' lives, there is no greater reward. Have a story you’d like to share? • Without a doubt, the magic of the Community First Fox Cities Marathon presented by Miron Construction comes alive when our participants show up at the start line. But turning curb and concrete into a premier, weekend-long event is the culmination of months of behind-the-scenes planning and the work of thousands of unsung heroes brought together by shared passion and purpose – a group otherwise known as volunteers. From water distribution, to course set-up and clean-up, food tents, directing traffic, face painting and so much more, the role of the volunteer is about creating a memorable experience for each participant – one that truly demonstrates our “why.” With less than 65 days to go until race weekend, we invite you to volunteer alongside the Community First Credit Union - Appleton Wisconsin team and experience the magic of helping our participants achieve their goals. • Tomorrow, June 15th, is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Older generations throughout the United States lose an estimated $2.6 billion or more annually due to elder financial abuse and exploitation*. It's a heartbreaking reality, but with the right vigilance and education, it's also avoidable. What can we do to protect our friends and loved ones? Here are some practical steps to honor our elders with the care they deserve: https://bit.ly/3xjX9M1 #WEAAD #ElderAbusePrevention #elderjustice *USC Center for Elder Justice

  • We are overjoyed to watch the Grow with St. Joe’s capital campaign come to life! An invaluable fixture in our community, St. Joseph Food Program, Inc. has served food-insecure individuals and families for the past 40+ years. As their distribution model evolves to meet the growing need, this renovation will ensure continued access to nutritional support for those economically distressed within our local communities. It was an honor to have St. Joe’s Board President – and our very own Building Project Manager – Jeff Schweitzer participate in the groundbreaking ceremony last week, and we are thrilled to join several area businesses in sponsoring St. Joe’s next chapter. Interested in joining the cause? Read more about opportunities to contribute and participate in this exciting project: bit.ly/3VzAvbH

What a beautiful morning yesterday to celebrate the groundbreaking for our capital campaign renovation project, Grow with St. Joe's! Thank you to all those that came out to celebrate with us, and to all the donors and sponsors who make this project possible. We were so proud to include staff, board members, and volunteers in our groundbreaking this morning. A shout out to Miron Construction Co., Inc. for their expertise and partnership on this project, as well as their generous gift of a $500,000 match. Another thank you to EUA for their design work to plan a beautiful plan for our renovation. We cannot wait to get started on this work!

  • “We’re in such a moment.” The spotlight is shining bright on the vision, deep collaboration and momentum that’s a signature of our region’s success. The Leaps, Leaders and Legacies 2024 New North Summit brought it all home. With the backdrop of June 6th D-Day commemorations, the arc of time, and ultimate commitment gave context to the winning Leroy Butler style ‘leaps’ of today shared by the presenters thoughout the day. As the Platinum sponsor of this event, Community First Credit Union - Appleton Wisconsin couldn’t be prouder of the momentum that’s building in our backyard. (We’re counting down too for the NFL Draft ‘25!) Need a moment (or more) of joy and inspiration? • A few days have passed since the American Cancer Society's Sole Burner 5k 2024, but we’re still feeling the inspiring energy of race day. The “Hill of Hope,” which requires race participants to trek a steep incline just moments before reaching the finish, is lined with tribute signs honoring, celebrating, and remembering loved ones who have battled cancer. It also features the course's greatest volume of spectators and (literal) cheerleaders to support participants through the most exhausting, challenging, and occasionally painful part of the race. It's a breathtaking metaphor considering the work the American Cancer Society has done to take a disease once steeped in fear and denial, and offer hope for survival. Together, the Community First Credit Union - Appleton Wisconsin team raised over $1,300 toward the American Cancer Society’s ongoing efforts to fund cancer research and provide comprehensive support to patients battling the disease. The highlight, however, was the opportunity to spend a beautiful, sunny morning running and walking alongside cancer survivors, like honorary survivor Anne Sowers, and in memory of those who have lost their cancer battle. We crossed the finish tired, weak, and breathless – but full of enormous hope. • Life is made up of moments, both big and small, that shape our lives and define who we are. From moments that bring us joy, engagement and motivation to those that challenge us with hardship, illness, failure and loss. Transitional moments—getting your first job and paycheck, buying your first car or home, starting a family—and milestone moments like graduations, birthdays, anniversaries and retirement. These moments serve as the building blocks of our journey. Because they matter deeply to you, they matter deeply to us. Indeed, for our cooperative, our 49th Annual Meeting, held tonight at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center in Appleton, was a moment that mattered. With a remarkable turnout of 2,220+ members, both in-person and online, the spirit of our community was not just visible, but palpable. Your active participation truly embodies the essence of our cooperative. We invite you to experience our powerful member video stories and read our 2023 Member-Owners’ Annual Report to discover how Community First is here for all the moments that matter in your life. https://bit.ly/4bxYFc1 #CreditUnionDifference #TeamCFCU

  • As Race Director for the Community First Fox Cities Marathon and Vice Chair of our Board of Directors, Julie K. Johnson and Peter Mariahazy SPHR CDIA avidly support our credit union’s community-focused mission and initiatives – Even when it’s outside their comfort zone. Their latest endeavor? Learning to play an instrument in just three months. Joining the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra's Sinfonia Class of ’24, Johnson and Mariahazy will make their concert debut on May 18, dazzling the audience with their newfound musical talents on the Tuba and Violin, respectively. But more impressive than the time and effort these novice instrumentalists have put into their upcoming performance, is the fundraising they’ve been championing behind the scenes in support of the FVSO and its Youth Orchestra programs.   We invite you to read more about their journey to the stage and how you can help support a culturally diverse future for our communities: https://bit.ly/3JQNkb0.  🎶   #musiceducation #givingback #sinfonia

  • Ask any high school senior, and they'll tell you the prospect of graduating is sweet. What's even better? Getting $1000 to support their continuing education sure amps up the excitement!   Three 2024 Greater Fox Cities Chapter of Credit Unions scholarship recipients just got the sweet news.    The chapter selected them based on their plans for ensuring financial wellness and their experiences giving back to the community through volunteerism. $1,000 scholarships supported by Community First Credit Union and other regional credit unions involved in the chapter were awarded to:   🎓 Ava Hazuka, Green Bay Preble HS 🎓 Madelyn Rutkowski, Oshkosh West HS 🎓 Ava Mau, Kaukauna HS   Community First's Angela Skrobutanas (VP of Product Marketing) helped review and select the recipients as part of the chapter's scholarship committee. "Choosing the best from the 65 applications received for these scholarships was difficult," she said. "We are proud to recognize these ambitious and talented credit union member-owners."    What's sweet for all of us?    Our region's bright group of ambitious and talented young people is poised to embrace the future. If you know one of the scholarship winners or their family, help them celebrate. If you're around a student ready to enter the workforce, trades, service, or higher education, give them some recognition.    Investments in studying, exploring and learning bring rich returns. Congrats #Class2024! #CreditUnionDifference #BrightFuture
