Well, that's #IACP2024 wrapped up for another year! Boston has been the best! I'm so incredibly pleased with how the Mea - Digital Evidence Integrity suite of products have been received at the conference. I can't wait to follow up on the conversations we had with existing friends and colleagues and with the new opportunities that have presented themselves. The presentation and panel for the impact of #Deepfake and #ShallowFake on #LawEnforcement and Justice was a complete success! Our third topic for Cybersecurity Awareness Month is Malware and its most common types. Malware is software that is specifically designed to disrupt, damage or gain unauthorised access to computer systems or services. Some common examples of malware are: Virus A Virus is the most common type of malware that can executed itself and spread by infecting other programs or files. Ransomware Ransomware infects a user’s system and encrypts its data. Cybercriminals then demand a ransom payment from the victim in exchange for decrypting the system’s data. Spyware Spyware, as suggested, secretly collects information and data on the device and user, as well as observes the user’s activity without their knowledge. Trojan Horse A Trojan Horse is designed to appear as a legitimate software program to gain access to any system. Once activated following installation, Trojans can execute their malicious functions. Adware Adware tracks your online activities with the intent to display pop-up or banner advertisements that lure the user into making a purchase. It can be installed through accessing malicious websites, clicking on emails, system vulnerabilities or as part of bundled free software.
