Dear COMTO Family, As the nation reflects on the results of this election, we are reminded of the significant role we all play in shaping an equitable and connected future. COMTO remains committed to ensuring that transportation serves everyone, regardless of background or community. We advocate for workforce development programs to ensure a highly skilled workforce, we educate elected officials on how critical it is to support small, minority- and women-owned businesses, and we invest in our young people. COMTO’S mission to champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in the transportation industry has never been more relevant or necessary. This week, as we celebrate COMTO Week, there is no better time to recommit to our purpose and support our shared goals. Together, we continue to advocate for policies and projects that positively impact the communities we serve and uplift voices that have been historically underrepresented. Let’s use this time to reconnect, reflect on our achievements, and look forward to the future we are building together. By empowering our members, we strengthen our industry and create lasting change that ensures transportation is fair, accessible, and inclusive for all. Thank you for being an integral part of COMTO’S mission. Here’s to our continued efforts and to the impact we are making across the nation! With appreciation, The Conference of Minority Transportation Officials

Historically, ridership has been the primary way transit agencies have communicated their success and public value in making connections for community. Several transit agencies have shifted services and enhanced performance tracking in recent years in ways that relate to the inequities tied to race, ethnicity, national origin, physical ability, income, age, or gender. TCRP Synthesis 176: Transit Agency Goals and Non-Traditional Performance Indicators Focused on Equity, from Transportation Research Board's Transit Cooperative Research Program - TCRP, documents the current practice of transit systems using non-traditional indicators to measure and improve equity as it relates to service planning and the customer experience. COMTO is standing on business! After legal challenges to the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Programs in Kentucky and Indiana, COMTO is making the case to support small, minority- and women-owned firms in transportation projects. Check out our President & CEO's Commentary in Passenger Transport! https://lnkd.in/gHVNZQSZ
Small businesses get the job done! That’s the tweet. Read the article in American Public Transportation Association’s Passenger Transport. https://lnkd.in/eXXbUKMH In this environment, the need to support and promote small businesses—particularly minority and women-owned firms—becomes even more urgent. These businesses are not just contractors, they are key partners in delivering infrastructure projects that are vital to the nation’s economic recovery. Small, minority, and women-owned businesses contribute significantly to building strong neighborhoods and thriving communities. They bring unique insights, a deep commitment to the people they serve, and an ability to adapt and innovate in ways that larger firms often cannot. Their participation is essential to completing the projects funded by IIJA on time and within budget. #comto #MWDBE COMTO National Office COMTO Headquarters
