What an honor for the Massachusetts Business Roundtable to join our friends and colleagues at Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate and Conexion in cohosting a captivating discussion on how the Latino community is reshaping American politics and democracy in the beautiful Senate Chamber replica at the EMK Institute. Renowned authors and national experts Mike Madrid and Ray Suarez discussed the growing impact of the Latino vote both now and into the future, particularly as the United States becomes closer to a majority-minority nation. Key takeaway? Treat Latino voters as the economic powerhouse they are, with the same economic, social and family concerns as anyone else as opposed to a solely ethnic voting block with an assumed set of priorities. This event continues a series of Roundtable covenings to promote dialogue in the business community around key issues in advance of the upcoming election at this particularly consequential time in our nation’s history. Thank you to Adam Hinds, Phyllis Barajas and your teams for your collaboration on this extraordinary event and for your continued leadership in our community to promote open dialogue and bipartisanship. Two great books to check out: We Are Home by Ray Suarez; and The Latino Century by Mike Madrid.

Just shy of a year ago, Mike Madrid made time to take a cold call from a random guy in Boston about Latino enagement and how we can do more to elevate our experience, power and influence in poltics. He told me about his book and I knew then he was on to something big! Today, I’m proud to call him a friend. Last night, Mike — by way of Conexion , Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate and Massachusetts Business Roundtable — came to Boston to deliver a powerful message about how conventional wisdom around engaging Latinos needs to and must shift. It was an insightful discussion with real-talk about what our politics and society is missing when comes to the incredibly diverse mosaic that is the Latino community. Luckily, a shortcut to understanding what makes our community tick and what’s driving our politics is at your fingers tips with Mike’s book The Latino Century as well as our esteemed moderator Ray Suarez’s book “We are Home.” Two critical perspectives hitting at the right time and moment for our city, Commonwealth and country. Mike, Ray, JD Chesloff, Phyllis Barajas, Carlos J. Vasquez, Genesis Garcia, Adam Hinds and others are critical voices in this narrative change and I can’t thank them enough for delivering this incredible evening at EMK. Special thanks to Amplify LatinX, Maggie Hayden Bramley and my fellow JFK Library New Frontier Network members for elevating this event and coming out to this timely and much-needed discussion. Let’s keep it going! Adelante!
