Can beige and pink get along? "Pinkalicious & Peterrific," produced by GBH Kids, set out to explore if two families with drastically different affinities - one for calming beige tones and one for vibrant pink - can learn from their differences. This video has resonated with hundreds of thousands of viewers across the web, some thrilled to learn that their favorite children's books have their own public television series, and some keen to weigh in on the Team Beige vs. Team Pink face off. In July, GBH celebrates Disability Pride Month to honor the history, achievements, experiences, and struggles of the disability community. GBH is proud of its long history of making media accessible to people with disabilities. We collaborated with World Channel last week for a discussion around the opportunities, strategies, and challenges facing journalists and filmmakers with disabilities – on both sides of the camera. Dan Habib, Cara Reedy, Liz Pritchard and GBH News' own Meghan Smith shared their perspectives on how disability is covered in film and in newsrooms. "If there's a lot of things you're not interested in, you're going to have trouble producing around here." There's no one more qualified to advise on the value of curiosity than Russ Morash, the pioneering public television producer who launched a DIY genre during his career at GBH with shows like "This Old House" and "The French Chef." Russ passed away last week at 88. From the Civil War to a fountain pen, Russ could be trusted to truly listen to experts and tell their stories in terms that anyone could understand and learn from.

GBH News is giving viewers a front row seat on young voters’ discussions about the biggest issues of the 2024 election and what will inspire them to vote — or not. The new video series "Politics IRL" led by Azita Ghahramani GBH News senior politics editor, and Alexi Cohan, producer, about the innovative project. features young adults sitting face to face, often with someone who disagrees with them, hashing out their opinions. The videos are part of the national public media effort America Amplified, where 57 stations around the country are using the tools of engagement journalism to not only cover stories but to understand viewers’ concerns more deeply. Alexi shared, "I hope it encourages people to sit down and talk with someone with whom they disagree. It’s one of the hardest things to do in America right now. I hope the project can show people that it’s not as hard as you might think." Learn more: https://bit.ly/4cdT770 #PublicMedia #EngagementJournalism #Journalism #Election #Politics

The Nobel Prize-winning writer John Steinbeck once mused, “I guess there are never enough books.” Nobody knows that better than librarians, our top reading ambassadors. For "Under the Radar with Callie Crossley's" annual summer reading special, three of our local librarians return with their curated lists for summer, including thrillers, histories, young adult stories, romance, and mysteries. Here's a quick peek, with the full list at the link below. What's on your summer reading list? - "Dixon, Descending" by Karen Outen (about a former track athlete turned school psychologist navigating the school's extreme climbing subculture) - "Looking for Smoke" by K.A. Cobell (about four teens living on the Blackfeet reservation who find themselves suddenly suspects in the murder of a classmate) - "The Warm Hands of Ghosts" by Katherine Arden (a historical fantasy about a WWI nurse trying to get home to Canada from the front) - "Trouble" by Lex Croucher (a Regency-era romcom centered around a governess hiding a family secret — a good one for those of you in your Bridgerton era) - "Barbie(TM): The World Tour" by Margot Robbie and Andrew Mukamal (Robbie and her stylist Mukamal share the iconic looks they created for the Barbie film and press tour) - "That Librarian: The Fight Against Book Banning in America" by Amanda Jones (in which Jones recounts the threats, obstacles, and ideologies she has encountered as a small-town librarian) - "The House of Hidden Meanings" by RuPaul (a memoir from RuPaul spanning from his childhood to his career as a drag icon and TV producer) #PublicMedia #LibraryJoy #SummerReading

We are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Russ Morash. A long-time member of the GBH family, Russ was a trailblazer in every sense of the word. He invented how-to television and, together with GBH, launched a new genre of programming that established public television in the minds of millions of viewers like you. His groundbreaking work embodied the innovative spirit that has always defined GBH. Russ first joined GBH in 1957 and for more than 40 years, he was instrumental in creating iconic shows that spanned generations, including "The French Chef" with Julia Child, "The Victory Garden," "This Old House," and "The New Yankee Workshop." Visionary and groundbreaking when they first premiered, these award-winning shows helped to change the way Americans interacted with television, giving audiences the confidence that they could succeed in the kitchen, and the knowledge they needed in order to tackle any and all home renovation projects. Over the years, Russ has been honored with 14 Emmy awards and a Lifetime Achievement award from the Emmys / Television Academy. He was inducted into the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame Hall of Fame in 2018. He always attributed his success to his team.
