Individuals who find themselves in situations that evoke a traumatic response may experience a range of reactions over short, medium, or long-term periods. These reactions can manifest in various ways, including emotional distress, physical symptoms, changes in behavior, and disruptions in daily functioning. While some may perceive these reactions as "symptoms" indicative of a problem, it's essential to recognize them as natural and normal responses to overwhelming experiences. As clinicians, our role is to provide support and understanding to those who have been traumatized. This involves offering information that is free from stigmatization and instead emphasizes the commonality of these responses. By normalizing their reactions, we empower individuals to recognize that they are not alone in their experiences and that seeking help is a proactive step towards healing and recovery. Through education and compassionate guidance, we can help individuals navigate the complexities of trauma with resilience and hope. #traumainformed #traumaaware #psychoeducation

Congruent Therapy was built around this concept. As employees or clinicians, we're often not treated fairly or seen as a person. At Congruent, our goal, and I think we're succeeding at this, is to create a container where everyone can be their authentic selves. Be that the owner, supervisors, fully licensed clinicians, associates, students, admin, and our clients. Tell us, have you experienced the freedom and right, to be fully accepted and cherished for who you are by your place of work?

This couldn't be more true. I was a horrible manager when I had my first shot. I understood the theory of good management, but wasn't so great at putting it into practice. Over the last 20+ years I've learned a ton however, and still do every day. Below you'll find some of the key learnings recently shared by Elfried Samba and Tobi Oluwole, which 100% echo my own learnings to date. I hope the lessons I've learned help you along the way: * Promote Work-Life Balance: Encourage your team to prioritize their well-being with regular breaks, fully utilized vacation time, and boundaries between work and life. Demonstrate that you respect these boundaries in your own life. * Set Clear Goals & Expectations: Reduce anxiety and ambiguity by setting clear objectives, expectations, and deadlines. Make sure every team member knows their role and its impact on the team's collective success. * Offer Support & Resources: Make yourself accessible to your team to discuss any concerns they may have and to offer your guidance. Provide mental health resources, days off for mental health, or flexible working to support their well-being. * Promote a Culture of Openness: Create an environment where open dialogue is encouraged, allowing team members to express their opinions, worries, and ideas freely - without fear of negative consequences. Listen actively and address concerns quickly. * Create Opportunities for Growth: Provide professional development opportunities, as well as clear pathways for career progression, to support your team members' skill development. Help them reach their full potential and celebrate along the way. * Strengthen Team Bonds: Promote a culture of cooperation, teamwork, and mutual support. Plan team-building exercises and social gatherings to build stronger connections and a sense of community within the team. * Lead with Kindness & Empathy: Make an effort to understand the unique circumstances, challenges, and strengths of each team member. Demonstrate empathy and kindness in your decision-making and interactions. Remain flexible. * Cultivate a Positive & Inclusive Workplace: Create a work environment that is positive, welcoming, and inclusive, where diversity is celebrated - a place where everyone feels valued, heard, and respected. * Watchout for Burnout: Watch for signs of burnout, such as falling productivity, more frequent absences, or behavioral changes. Address concerns related to workloads, offer additional support, or adjust expectations as necessary. I hope these help you! Your team will surely appreciate you ❤️ Repost to help others in your network ♻️ And follow Eric Partaker for more. 📌 Interested in business, leadership & self-mastery? Assume that I can, so maybe I will. 🔥 What a powerful campaign for World Down Syndrome Day 2024 by CoorDown featuring Madison Tevlin. It shows the power we all have to change people's lives by not making assumptions; after all, most of us are disabled by the barriers and biases we face. Our negative assumptions about people with Down syndrome and other disabilities can lead us to treat them in such a way that these assumptions become reality. In sociology, this is called a ‘self-fulfilling prophecy’. Why not reverse our perspectives? SMALLIndiana Production #WorldDownSyndromeDay #DontAssume #EndAbleism

Did you know that for many individuals who have experienced poverty or endured uncertainty about their next meal during childhood, their brains may activate a gene in the body to retain weight? -Lisa M. Diamond This protective factor is incredible! Does this help you challenge the shame you have about your weight? Does this help you challenge the assumptions and judgments you have of others? We hope so. -Congruent Therapy

    RSW, MSW, Social Worker, Psychotherapist

In therapy, I often teach my clients the "Feel it to heal it" mantra. Emotions get a bad rap, but it's actually our attempts to minimize, deny, numb, or judge our emotions that causes us the most distress, not the feelings themselves. In fact, our emotions are often adaptive, make sense in context, and have important information to communicate to us about our needs, desires, relationships, and experiences. This image is a screenshot from an excellent resource called the Atlas of Emotions that may help you feel, make sense of, and relate to your own emotional experiences. https://lnkd.in/gpC95uG7 #feelittohealit #emotions #mentalhealth #therapy #psychology #atlasofemotions.org

Therapy is about exploring, unearthing, reflecting and trusting. It begins with attunment. It can be hard to reflect, unpack and process on our own. We work better in reflective dynamics. And sometimes, we simply don’t have the capacity or bandwidth, to look at the truth, or feel our feelings alone. A great therapist helps to build capacity to explore, be with, contain and integrate our experiences. Therapy is not meant to: 📌transform your life in six weeks 📌solve all your problems 📌make you feel better after every session 📌give you a map on how to ‘do life better’ 📌be an emotional dumping zone where you purge and cry one a month and zip yourself up and continue life just the same 📌validate or enable harmful behaviours 📌be short term, reactive and band-aid like Therapy is meant to: 📌be a sanctuary for safety, authenticity & vulnerability 📌help you learn to explore your feelings, sensations, behaviours, patterns, blocks and desires 📌help you connect to your intuition, voice and agency 📌be a mid to long term proactive relationship where trust builds 📌empower you to live with greater compassion and accountability ➡️Therapy has got a bad wrap for a few main reasons. They include: 📌Reactive therapy collective Because so many people seek therapy only during intense times of distress or devastation, we collectively have learned that therapy is a painful, short term process only for the most awful situations. It’s time to recalibrate the way we undertand therapy and its role in our lives. 📌 Dangers of Diagnosis In some mental health systems, the moment you see a therapist, there’s the liklihood of diagnosis, medication and the often life long stigma and medical journey that comes with it. (psssst most therapists these days do not have prescriptive powers and many will work in ways that do not require dignosis / medical labelling). 📌 Climb the mountain smoke and mirrors culture Most of us are in the rat race. Climbing the mountain to earn better, have higher status. More, more, higher, higher. Even though we have been working on a culture shift for some time now, mental health diagnosis or needing time for self care can still be seen as a deficit and cause some kind of penalty on the journey. While many organizations are making moves to shift the stigma, the more important thing is for us to question our tendancies to self-abandonment, and learn that health is the new wealth. 👉Therapy is a commitment to our own liberation in this noisy world. Let’s validate it for ourselves and each other. ❓What do you think? #therapy #validation #culturaltransformation #stigmafree #mentalhealth #traumainformed #compassion #authenticity #vulnerability Learn more about choosing the right therapist for you.
