Day 2 Recap of the MOLE XXXV WASH Conference The Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources briefed participants about the Ghana Presidential Compact on WASH. Stating that the Ghana Presidential Compact on #WASH is a high-level initiative aimed at accelerating progress towards achieving Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) goals, which are critical for socio-economic development. It builds on previous national efforts, such as the 2010 Ministerial Compact, and responds to rapid global changes, climate change impacts, and lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic. The Compact was signed by the President of Ghana and the UN Resident Coordinator in August 2024, following discussions with key stakeholders like the Sanitation and Water for All - a UNICEF-hosted global partnership (SWA), and outlines commitments by the government, development partners, civil society, and private sector. Its objectives include providing #strong #leadership, #strengthening #partnerships, addressing #climate #change, and unlocking #innovative #financing and #technologies to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6 (#SDG 6). The Compact aims to ensure the entire population practices safe WASH behaviors and calls for the establishment of a National Sanitation Authority (#NSA). It also focuses on cross-cutting issues like #gender, #inequality, and #inclusion to ensure #universal #access to #WASH services. CONIWAS Ghana plays a crucial role in implementing the Compact by developing a roadmap, promoting accountability, advocating for citizen engagement, and monitoring progress. The initiative underscores the need for collective action to achieve universal water and sanitation access in Ghana and highlights the importance of partnerships in driving sustainable WASH improvements. #molewashconference #Water #SDG6 #Sanitation #MOLE35 #WASH #GHANA #Hygiene CONIWAS Ghana, GAMA SWP , WaterAid Ghana , UNICEF Ghana , Global Communities - Ghana, IRCWASH , Zoomlion Ghana Ltd., Catholic Relief Services , Plan International Ghana , World Vision Ghana, SNV, PATH , Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLANNING COMMISSION (NDPC)-GHANA, Beata Akanyani, ProNet North Gh. , Water Resources Commission, Ghana, Ghana Water Company Ltd., Safe Water Network, USAID/Ghana SAGES Systems Strengthening Activity, USAID, Aquaya, WaterREG Ghana, CSIR Water Research Institute, Safisana, Hope for Future Generations (HFFG), Water & Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP), Sanitation and Water for All - a UNICEF-hosted global partnership, Resource Centre Network Ghana Easy Water for Everyone

I was privileged to be part of the Catholic Relief Services Ghana team to participate in this year's CONIWAS Ghana MOLE XXXV WASH Conference, themed, "Looking Back on SDG 6 Implementation in Ghana: Progress, Challenges and Wayforward", from October 6-11, 2024, at the Volta Serene Hotel-Ho in the Volta Region. I was honoured to make a presentation at the Side Events Session on the topic "From Silos to Synergy: Integrating WASH and Agriculture for Water Security; the IWARC Project Approach". The presentation highlighted the integrated strategy of the IWARC initiative of implementing improved WASH and Nature-based Solutions (NbS) including climate smart/sustainable agriculture and integrated watershed management activities, and the innovative WASH Financing mechanism, the Watershed Fund. These are expected to contribute to the protection of the White Volta River Basin, particularly, the Nawuni sub-catchment, to ensure water security for the riparian communities and the Greater Tamale area. The CRS Ghana WASH Team also made 2 other presentations at the Conference. Thomas Tahidu made a presentation on "Improving Access to Safely Managed Sanitation using Household Sewer Connections: the Case of Two Small towns in Tamale Metropolis". This presentation focused on efforts made through the SafeWASH Project in providing implementation support for the operationalization of a fecal sludge management facility for household connections to sewer lines for effective liquid sanitation management. In the last presentation, Plance Victor Raul Puobabangna and Ubaidatu Braimah co-presented on the CRS Ghana WASH in Schools Model and Strategy. The presentation highlighted the ICOWASH project's implementation trajectory, successes and lessons, and introduced stakeholders to the CRS developed WinS Toolbox website, which contains all resources for WinS Program design and implementation. CRS Ghana also made an exhibition of the organization's various documented WASH models, services, products and projects briefs. The MOLE WASH conference served as an opportunity to reconnect with old pals in the WASH sector; network with other sector professionals; learn from industry leaders, WASH subject matter experts, and other organizations' approaches and initiatives; and also connect with the beautiful natural landscape of the Volta region. Hopefully, the learnings and networks built would catalyze professional growth, partnerships and collaborations for improved and sustainable WASH systems/services. #MOLEWASHConferenceXXXV #LookingBackOnSDG6 #ProgressChallengesWaysforward #IntegratedWASHAndAgriculture #WaterSecurity #SDG6 #Alwaysbealover #ASALOVER

Recap of Day 1 of the MOLE XXXV WASH Conference 2. In her welcome address at the 35th Mole Conference, Beata Akanyani highlighted both the progress and challenges in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 (#SDG 6) related to water, sanitation, and hygiene (#WASH) in Ghana. She noted the evolution of the Mole Conference from an NGO forum to an essential multi-stakeholder platform. Beata Akanyani emphasized the significant contributions of CONIWAS Ghana in policy engagement, including the review of the Environmental Sanitation Policy and the launch of the Revised Water Policy in 2024. Key accomplishments mentioned included advocacy for prioritizing WASH, the #standardization of #menstrualhygiene products, and the establishment of the White Volta Basin Watershed Fund. However, despite these achievements, she pointed out ongoing challenges such as water scarcity, pollution from illegal mining, and inadequate sanitation facilities. Beata Akanyani also called for increased support from the government and development partners to improve WASH services and enhance organizational capacity. She reflected on the importance of the conference’s theme, "Looking Back on the Implementation of SDG 6: Progress, Challenges, and Way Forward," stressing that it provides a unique opportunity to assess progress, confront challenges, and chart a path forward toward achieving SDG 6 by 2030. #molewashconference #Water #SDG6 #Sanitation #MOLE35 #WASH #GHANA #Hygiene CONIWAS Ghana, GAMA SWP , WaterAid Ghana , UNICEF Ghana , Global Communities - Ghana, IRCWASH , Zoomlion Ghana Ltd., Catholic Relief Services , Plan International Ghana , World Vision Ghana, SNV, PATH , Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLANNING COMMISSION (NDPC)-GHANA, , Beata Akanyani, ProNet North Gh. , Water Resources Commission, Ghana, Ghana Water Company Ltd.., Safe Water Network, USAID/Ghana SAGES Systems Strengthening Activity, USAID, Aquaya, WaterREG Ghana, CSIR Water Research Institute, Safisana, Hope for Future Generations (HFFG), Water & Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP), Sanitation and Water for All - a UNICEF-hosted global partnership, Resource Centre Network GhanaEasy Water for Everyone
