A partnership of conservation NGOs, government agencies, and funders that works collectively to achieve greater impact

About us

The Conservation Measures Partnership (#CMP) is a partnership of conservation-oriented NGOs, government agencies, and funders that works collectively to achieve greater impact. We seek better ways to design, manage, and measure the impacts of our conservation actions so that we can learn and improve our efforts and contribute our learning to the broader evidence base. CMP members develop and update the Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation (#ConservationStandards).

Today, we’re excited to feature the Wildlife Conservation Network (WCN), a valued member of the Conservation Measures Partnership! WCN joined CMP to foster collaboration, learning, and knowledge-sharing within a global community dedicated to designing, managing, and measuring impactful conservation action. WCN’s mission focuses on safeguarding endangered wildlife by supporting conservationists who work to ensure harmony between wildlife and human communities. Recently, WCN worked with the Andean Cat Alliance (Alianza Gato Andino) using the Conservation Standards to develop their strategic plan, deepening their approach to species protection and community engagement. We’re proud to support WCN as they continue their work in empowering conservationists by using the Conservation Standards.🌱 #CMPMembers #ConservationStandards Photo Credit (Andean cat): Cristian Sepulveda

  • Today we are featuring one of our members - The NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration's Coral Reef Conservation Program! In late 2018, they finalized a new strategic plan, guided by the Conservation Standards. The framework of the Standards aligned seamlessly with their mission to implement the 2018 plan effectively. To improve the effectiveness and efficiency of this work, the NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Program joined the Conservation Measures Partnership as an organizational member in March 2020. "By joining this active community of practice with other conservation professionals, with a shared goal of improving conservation impacts, we sought to learn new and different ways to track and assess progress against our strategy, learn from our ongoing efforts, and adaptively manage the Coral Program’s work. The conservation community, including many of the Coral Program’s partners, is embracing the Conservation Standards as a leading approach to adaptive management and measuring success. As a federal agency, we need to be good stewards of the funds we receive and both the principles of the Conservation Standards and the community fostered by Conservation Measures Partnership help us to do just that." Happy #FeatureFriday #CMPMembers

  • For World Habitat Day, we’re celebrating the incredible work of Corporación Nacional Forestal (CONAF) in Chile! Chile’s stunning landscapes—from high deserts to temperate forests—span one of the world’s longest and most diverse countries. To protect these unique habitats, CONAF uses the Conservation Standards to unify diverse teams with a common language for tackling conservation challenges. Together, they’re building a stronger, more effective conservation strategy across the nation. Happy #WorldHabitatDay

  • This year marks a major milestone for the Conservation Standards – 20 years of guiding organizations worldwide to protect biodiversity and ecosystems through proven strategies! For conservation practitioners, the world before the Standards was often confusing. Just ask John Morrison, Director of Conservation Planning and Measures at WWF, who recalls a pivotal moment early in his career: "Years ago, after completing a spatial analysis of priority areas, a project manager asked me, ‘This is great, but how do we decide what to do in these areas?’ I didn’t have an answer. But only a few months later, a colleague introduced me to an early version of the Conservation Standards, and I immediately realized it was the key to organizing our efforts. Over the last 20 years, I've built my career around using this framework to guide projects and programs, and it’s been incredibly rewarding." Join us in celebrating two decades of impactful conservation! #ConservationStandards
