We regret to inform you of the passing of our previous Chairman, William (Bill) Kennedy. Bill died Friday, June 28, 2024 surrounded by his family. Bill was born May 23, 1950, in Janesville, WI. The son of Robert and Delores Kennedy graduated from Creighton University. Bill married Diane Shuput on April 8, 1972, in Omaha, Nebraska. Bill’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, which included Diane, their 5 children and spouses, and 16 grandchildren. Bill, Steve, and Bob Kennedy acquired Rock Road Companies from their father in 1994, marking a significant chapter in the family's legacy as the fourth generation of Kennedy owners. Bill's dedication and hard work as an owner of Rock Road Companies was truly inspiring. He embodied the qualities of a visionary leader by constantly pushing the limits and striving for greatness. His commitment to this company was a true testament to his character and his passion for success. While we will undoubtedly miss his presence, his legacy will continue to inspire and guide us as we move forward. Let us honor his memory by carrying forward the values and dedication he embodied, ensuring his lasting impact at Rock Road. CBG's DBE Development Director Joseph Davis, Sr. recently had the opportunity to meet with Rock Road Companies, Inc. Director of Compliance / Contracts Tiffany Adleman about building a solid partnership with each other in the road building industry. Rock Roads Companies has a track record of DBE utilization and achieving WisDOT goals on federally funded projects, so it was a no brainer that CBG would seek input from RR on their capacity building efforts for DBEs at the same time gain insights on their approach to the industry. Since 1913, Rock Roads™ has been a provider of engineering, general, and heavy-highway contracting services throughout Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. Their experienced construction crews combine their leadership, transparency, and extensive industry knowledge with precision equipment while utilizing the Wisconsin Department of Transportation certified DBE subcontractor network in order to consistently deliver superior service for their public sector partners. CBG views Rock Roads as a valuable part of our strategic network of prime contractors in the road building industry. "We are committed to delivering the highest quality of work, expertise, and materials to our partners", says Tiffany Adelman.

WisDOT Secretary Thompson was proud to join Senator Baldwin earlier today and break ground for the I-39/90/94 Wisconsin River bridge project in Columbia County. This project received an $80 million federal grant from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The Wisconsin River Bridge is past its service life and will be rebuilt over the next three years. The six-lane bridge carries up to 90,000 vehicles per day during the summer and more than $100 billion of goods cross the structure annually.

I recently had the opportunity to do a job-site visit on the I-894 and I-43 projects in WisDOT's SE Region and took some great photos of the fantastic work that we do as industry partners in the road building industry. So while we are kicking off the 2024 construction season, I'd like to share how proud I am of the work our DBEs are doing as subcontractors on these federally funded projects. Kudos to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation SE Region for managing such complexed projects and making it look so easy. Also, congratulations to the Wisconsin Transportation Builders Association and International Union of Operating Engineers Local 139 for leading the effort of not only meeting the DBE goals of participation, but exceeding the goals on both projects! Here at the Construction Business Group along with our industry partners WisDOT's DBE Program, WTBA, and IUOE Local 139....... We Are "Building Wisconsin Together®"!
