The Copper team had a great time in Banff earlier this month at #GridFWD, and we enjoyed Copper Board member Nora Mead Brownell’s participation in a thought-provoking closing plenary. One of our biggest takeaways is that, while there are a growing number of really impressive data-driven #utility solutions using #AI and machine learning, it’s still often a struggle to find high-quality data to feed into those solutions. Copper is here to help by providing higher-resolution and more timely data from existing electric, gas, and water meters to support the sustainable #utilityofthefuture.

Our portfolio company Copper Labs makes technology to help consumers save on energy bills and help utilities deliver energy more efficiently by managing supply and demand. Their technology can tell users in near-real-time how much money they can save by, for instance, waiting until after-hours to run a load of laundry. That's also a win for the environment, because when grid capacity is taxed, utilities can be forced to turn to fossil-fuel "peaker plants" to meet demand. The key to Copper's tech is sensors that can capture energy usage. Here's a fun aerial view of a new sensor deployment going up in Colorado!

Installed on a smart streetlight, pole, or rooftop, Copper's outdoor detectors can wirelessly collect near-#realtimedata from hundreds of electric, gas, and water meters and share it instantly with #utilities and their customers.
