This is a story about a cold LinkedIn DM. In January 2022, Yoav Zimet asked me to meet up in Vegas at CES. I waited to reply until after the event and asked him to email a deck. I almost didn't but I’m glad I did. From its previous iteration as a massively used Discord music bot (talking 20M+ servers), Rythm possessed some pretty incredible unfair advantages that you just don’t see in a “pre-seed” company (using that term liberally here). Its biggest advantage in our eyes, however, was a young founder building a music streaming service for how he and his friends consume content: online, altogether, all the time. A few months later, we co-led Rythm’s Pre-Seed with Corazon Capital and brought along some music industry heavyweights. A year later, we co-led Rythm’s Seed, again alongside Corazon, and now with Mucker Capital. It’s been a journey to get to today’s announcement. Building a platform from the ground up, label negotiations that aren’t for the feint of heart, distribution conversations that could make or break their business model…and still so much is unknown. What I do know: I’d back this founder every time. I’m glad I responded to his DM.
