October is a significant month dedicated to raising awareness and promoting education on important issues surrounding child abuse. At CornerHouse, we believe that starting the conversation is the first step toward building awareness. October 10th marks World Mental Health Day, a day that sparks crucial conversations about mental health. By raising awareness, we can break down barriers, making mental health care more accessible and reducing the shame associated with these challenges. Awareness campaigns are key to empowering survivors to come forward, seek support, and break the cycle of abuse. Working with adult survivors of domestic violence and those who use violence reveals something clear: Many of them experienced abuse, neglect, or witnessed violence as children. Working with adult survivors of domestic violence and those who use violence reveals something clear: Many of them experienced abuse, neglect, or witnessed violence as children. It is apparent that abuse can happen on a generational cycle. So how do we stop this cycle? There is an answer, and that is Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs) – where children and families can receive timely support and tools to manage their trauma after abuse is discovered. Throughout the year CornerHouse faculty will share their expertise on topics related to forensic interviewing, child maltreatment, trauma and victimization, abuse and violence, self-care and secondary trauma, as well as other pertinent topics.
