✨ "Remember you are all people and all people are you. Remember you are this universe and this universe is you." ✨ As we reflect on Indigenous Peoples' Day, we are reminded of the deep interconnectedness between all people and the power of community care. At CornerHouse, we embody this sense of unity by working to support children and families through trauma, offering a safe space for healing and justice. Just as Indigenous teachings emphasize our collective responsibility, we believe that every child’s well-being impacts us all. Through advocacy and compassionate support, CornerHouse ensures that children can find the safety and voice they deserve, helping our communities thrive together. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #WeAreConnected

October is a significant month dedicated to raising awareness and promoting education on important issues surrounding child abuse. At CornerHouse, we believe that starting the conversation is the first step toward building awareness. October 10th marks World Mental Health Day, a day that sparks crucial conversations about mental health. By raising awareness, we can break down barriers, making mental health care more accessible and reducing the shame associated with these challenges. The CornerHouse Mental Health Team offers a range of therapy services including individual therapy, curriculum-based group therapy, and caregiver support. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/3nPbds4 The entire month of October is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Awareness campaigns are key to empowering survivors to come forward, seek support, and break the cycle of abuse. Working with adult survivors of domestic violence and those who use violence reveals something clear: Many of them experienced abuse, neglect, or witnessed violence as children. It is apparent that abuse can happen on a generational cycle. Learn about the role of Childrens' Advocacy Centers in stopping the cycle of generational abuse. Check out our white paper and our podcast on the topic. White paper: https://bit.ly/3ZvHogB Podcast: https://bit.ly/4eFjvYK

Working with adult survivors of domestic violence and those who use violence reveals something clear: Many of them experienced abuse, neglect, or witnessed violence as children. It is apparent that abuse can happen on a generational cycle. So how do we stop this cycle? There is an answer, and that is Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs) – where children and families can receive timely support and tools to manage their trauma after abuse is discovered. Check out this "From the Expert" written by CornerHouse Chief Executive Officer, Christy Shannon. Throughout the year CornerHouse faculty will share their expertise on topics related to forensic interviewing, child maltreatment, trauma and victimization, abuse and violence, self-care and secondary trauma, as well as other pertinent topics.
