COTA helps children and young adults who need a transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support.
About us
The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA exists to assist patients who require a life-saving organ, bone marrow, cord blood or stem cell transplant. COTA works with patients of any age who need a transplant due to a genetic disease such as Cystic Fibrosis, Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), Sickle Cell Anemia (call for other diseases), and all patients 21 and under for any disease complication. COTA guides the family and their volunteers through every necessary fundraising step, including organizing and training the campaign volunteer committee; planning successful events and activities; working with the media; and finding multiple sources of funding. Key services for transplant families include: NO COST SERVICES The Children’s Organ Transplant Association does not charge for its services or take a percentage of funds raised. 100% of funds raised in honor of patients are used for transplant-related expenses. NOT-FOR-PROFIT STATUS Because the Children’s Organ Transplant Association is a 501(c)3 charity, gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowable by law. And, because COTA serves as the trustee of the funds, these funds are not considered income for the family and do not jeopardize any assistance program the family has or may qualify for. November is Diabetes Awareness Month, and COTA’s Noud family is celebrating the four-year anniversary of their son Jaylen’s cutting-edge transplant that required extensive caregiving by his parents to get him to where he is today. While this somewhat new transplant would likely eliminate much of the immense pain their son had dealt with for years, one potential side effect was the possibility he could become diabetic for the rest of his life … it was a risk they were willing to take. #DiabetesAwarenessMonth #transplant #transplantfundraising #isletcelltransplant #diabetes Read their story: https://lnkd.in/gfsJnt23

Many days, weeks or even months spent at the hospital can delay common milestones for transplant kids, like crawling and walking. Recently, several COTA kids have been on the move! “With tubes dangling and a face of determination, he stepped boldly. ‘Look ma, no hands or knees.’” – COTA for Elijah Strong Volunteer Brandon. COTA Toddler Elijah is awaiting a life-saving heart transplant. “We have a walker! Look out world! Nothing will hold this girl back!” – Lauran and Nicholas Pound, parents of COTA Toddler Luxe who received a life-saving liver transplant in May 2024. “This little man continues to inspire and bring so much joy. … How can you not get emotional watching this?!? He has overcome a TREMENDOUS number of obstacles to arrive here at this moment. Crawling. CRAWLING!” – Kristin Kachur, mom of COTA Toddler Crosby who received a life-saving bone marrow transplant in May 2022. What wonderful milestones. Oh, the places you’ll go! #MilestoneMonday #donatelife #transplantfundraising #transplant
