October is Liver Awareness Month. More than 30 million Americans have some form of liver disease. This October, a COTA transplant family is celebrating their daughter’s now healthy liver and is extremely grateful for the family who donated their child’s organ to save her life. #LiverAwarenessMonth #donatelife #transplantfundraising #transplant #liverdisease See their story: https://lnkd.in/gUPf2PZB

COTA helps children and young adults who need a transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support.
About us
The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA exists to assist patients who require a life-saving organ, bone marrow, cord blood or stem cell transplant. COTA works with patients of any age who need a transplant due to a genetic disease such as Cystic Fibrosis, Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), Sickle Cell Anemia (call for other diseases), and all patients 21 and under for any disease complication. COTA guides the family and their volunteers through every necessary fundraising step, including organizing and training the campaign volunteer committee; planning successful events and activities; working with the media; and finding multiple sources of funding. Key services for transplant families include: NO COST SERVICES The Children’s Organ Transplant Association does not charge for its services or take a percentage of funds raised. 100% of funds raised in honor of patients are used for transplant-related expenses. NOT-FOR-PROFIT STATUS Because the Children’s Organ Transplant Association is a 501(c)3 charity, gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowable by law. And, because COTA serves as the trustee of the funds, these funds are not considered income for the family and do not jeopardize any assistance program the family has or may qualify for. Trying new foods is a “normal” milestone for children to experience … yet for transplant patients who may have relied on feeding tubes for weeks, months or years, trying food in general – let alone lots of new and different kinds – can be much harder due to oral aversion. COTA Baby Armando received his life-saving liver transplant in April. Just a month and a half post-transplant, Armando began trying new foods! #MilestoneMonday #donatelife #transplantfundraising #transplant

For nearly 40 years, COTA has been assisting transplant families. Kennedy Dorfman has been a COTA Kid since January 2021 and received her life-saving liver transplant that March. Little brother Caden joined the COTA family shortly after in May 2021 and is awaiting his new liver. Read what Eric and Aly, parents of Kennedy and Caden, had to say about their family’s experience with COTA. #WhyCOTA #transplant #fundraising #donatelife

COTA was proud to sponsor the 2024 Society of Transplant Social Workers Conference this week in Madison, Wisconsin. Transplant social workers nationwide are typically how families learn about COTA, and we are extremely grateful! #STSW #STSWConference2024 #transplant #socialworker

COTA is proud to partner with organizations across the country that help transplant families, like BAREinc.org. The mission of BARE -- which stands for Biliary Atresia Research & Education -- is to drive research and education for better outcomes in treatment and management within the Biliary Atresia community. October is Liver Awareness Month and a perfect time to listen to a recent episode of BARE’s podcast, Coffee Talk. In addition to discussing COTA's mission of assisting transplant families, hear from two families how COTA has made a difference in their transplant journeys ... and will continue to do so for a lifetime. #LiverAwarenessMonth #podcast #biliaryatresia #BAaware #donatelife #transplantfundraising #transplant LISTEN HERE:
