Yesterday, the Fearless Fund and Fearless Foundation announced a settlement with the American Alliance for Equal Rights (AAER). While this case is settled, we still encourage philanthropies to continue to give according to their values and maintain their commitment to supporting historically marginalized groups. Candid's report "The state of diversity in the U.S. nonprofit sector," analyzed demographic data from over 59,000 public charities. This comprehensive dataset offers a benchmark to track progress in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. And the data has a lot to say: ❇️ The sector is racially diverse, but leadership is not. 47% of all staff identify as white, compared with 70% of CEOs and 66% of board members. ❇️ White male CEO representation increases with organization size, while BIPOC female CEO representation decreases. ❇️ Smaller organizations tend to have smaller, more diverse boards.
