Belle da Costa Greene (1879–1950) was a trailblazing American librarian and director, renowned for her significant role at the Morgan Library & Museum in New York City, where she served as librarian and director from 1905 to 1948. During her tenure, Greene was pivotal in expanding the library’s collections, curating rare manuscripts, and elevating the institution to one of the foremost cultural landmarks in the U.S. She also oversaw the management and development of J.P. Morgan's personal library, further cementing her influence in the world of rare books and manuscripts. The Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) is accepting applications from collecting organizations for the digital reformatting of audio and audiovisual materials for the Recordings at Risk grant program. The deadline to submit proposals is April 14, 2025, with award announcements scheduled for August 2025. Generously funded by the Mellon Foundation, Recordings at Risk focuses on digitally preserving “at-risk” recorded content of significant importance to researchers and the general public. CLIR will grant awards between $10,000 and $50,000 for digital reformatting projects scheduled between September 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026. Learn more and apply:
