Volunteer Spotlight: Paige Perrelli! Paige will be beginning her senior year of high school this Fall. Paige benefited from The Cove after her dad passed when she was ten years old. Now Paige enjoys helping others as a junior facilitator at the Guilford Cove. She loves being able to connect with and support children and families who are navigating grief. She hopes to continue her time with The Cove and give back in the same way The Cove was able to give to her. Thank you, Paige! Interested in volunteering? It's hard to believe that the 2024-2025 school year is coming up so soon. At The Cove, we know school can be especially challenging for grieving students, and have provided some tips for navigating grief support as a caregiver or school staff member. We can’t believe Fall is already around the corner—which means our Family Program cycle is starting up again! Family Program meetings take place every other Sunday and offer grieving families a sense of hope and community. One Cove mom wrote, “When I asked my 6 year old son what he liked best about The Cove so far, he said, ‘I like playing games with the other kids. I learned their names and that their daddy died, too. It makes me feel good to be nice to them because we both have a daddy that died.’ For me, I have learned that it is ok to not be ok; we all have good days and bad days, but we are all doing our very best. I look at the other parents and think they are amazing, but I now know that they feel the same way about me. It really helps to simply feel heard.” Click to learn more about our Family Program: https://lnkd.in/ewJMtxDx. #nonprofit #ctnonprofit #familyprogram #childhoodgrief #griefsupport

The Cove is immensely grateful for the feedback we received on our new program, Equine Sessions, a collaboration with Kate Nicoll of Soul Friends, Inc in partnership with the New York Life Foundation. This program offered the therapeutic nature of connecting with horses in a safe, secure environment for children and their families who experienced the death of a loved one. We received some feedback below from one of our Cove families: "We can't say enough great things about Allison, Jessica, and about Soul Friends! We looked forward every week to spending time as a family, & learning about the horses and more about ourselves and our feelings in the same process. We would talk about our sessions the whole way home and on and off throughout the week. This experience brought us closer as a family and gifted us joy and memories that we will carry with us forever. Allison and Jessica are great people and easy to feel comfortable around. The girls loved them & will miss them and the horses very much. (Especially Oreo🙂). Thank you so much for providing us this opportunity." Thank you to all who made this grant and program possible.
