The Seibert Gym at Samford University was built in 1961, thanks to a generous donation from Ralph W. Seibert and his wife, Ruth. Interestingly, our company founder, Joe Covington Sr., worked on installing the original maple flooring for this gym while employed by EP Cuthrell Flooring Company in Birmingham, Alabama. Now, 63 years later, the original floor has been transformed into a unique stairway in the new Samford Recreation Wellness and Athletics facility. The maple boards were used to create wooden seating and a stairway that leads from the main entrance to the second floor. Watch the video for more details!

PROJECTS IN ACTION Samford University is excited to unveil its new state-of-the-art recreation, wellness and athletic facility, a transformative addition to the campus that enhances opportunities for physical fitness, mental wellness, and community engagement. Spanning 165,000 square feet across four buildings, this facility stands as one of the largest capital projects in the university’s history and is a key component of its campus master plan. The redesigned Seibert Hall pictured now features multi-use courts, fitness studios, dance spaces, a modern weight room, and a welcoming common area complete with lounge spaces, a coffeehouse, and a 24-hour convenience store. Bashinsky Field House has been fully refurbished, providing dedicated training and practice spaces for Samford’s Division I basketball and volleyball teams. A new building adjacent to Seibert Hall includes gym spaces, and for the first time in Samford’s history, a suspended indoor walk-jog track. Covington played a vital role in this project, installing the gym floor and walk-jog track that enhance the facility’s state-of-the-art features. This facility reflects Samford University’s commitment to the mental, physical, and spiritual well-being of its students while providing a vibrant space for the entire community to gather, unite, and thrive.

Covington has proudly completed two major flooring installations at Rice University within the past year, providing a “double helping” of excellence with new Robbins sports flooring systems. These installations include the main arena, known as the Tudor Fieldhouse, and the Fox Gymnasium, the university’s dedicated practice facility.
