Throughout National Hispanic Heritage Month, an unprecedented bilingual delegation of AIA staff and members engaged in nationwide advocacy on behalf of the profession. AIA Los Angeles and AIA Long Beach/South Bay constituents met with Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán (CA-44) in her Long Beach Office to discuss how CRATE Modular, Inc. in Carson is building for health and sustainability. AIA also sponsored a booth at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Leadership Conference in Washington, DC to engage with the growing Latinx design professionals and policymakers. In the days following, our staff and members were invited to join senior Biden-Harris Administration health leaders for the first-ever U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Hispanic Health Summit #AvanzandoNuestraSalud in the iconic Hubert H. Humphrey Building Great Hall. In alignment with the Conference theme of "Our Moment in History," the power of design concept was underscored and embraced by an array of the nation's foremost diverse policymakers that included Vice President of the United States of America Kamala D. Harris, the 25th Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra, CHCI Chairman Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) as well as CHCI President and CEO Marco Davis. As part of the global community, AIA is building a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion within the profession of architecture to create a better environment for all. Achieving this vision has a direct impact on the relevance of our profession and the world's prosperity, health, and future. #HispanicHeritageMonth #LatinX #Architecture #BlueprintForBetter #AIA
