A free morning lecture series for the Tucson creative community. Everyone Is Creative, Everyone Is Welcome.

About us

Just 65 miles north of the US-Mexico border and home to the University of Arizona, Tucson is both a culturally and geographically diverse place with a thriving creative community. From a wide array of artists and craftspeople that incorporate Native American, Mexican and Southwestern influences to hip creative professionals in marketing, product design and architecture to an amazing local music scene. And don’t forget the foodies! Tucson is the only UNESCO Gastronomy city in America with its rich (and delicious) food traditions. Simply put, Tucson is on the up. And as it grows it’s going to take us, the creative community, to maintain the heartbeat of our city. It’s important we foster our own ecosystem and work together; that’s where CreativeMornings comes in. Creative Mornings Tucson is a free, monthly breakfast lecture series for creative types. Each event is free of charge, and includes a 20 minute talk, plus coffee! We passionately believe in the magic of gathering likeminded people because there is nothing like learning and sharing in-person. What we’re building here is an ongoing global conversation among local creative communities. Join us at our next event and let’s get creating together. • Meet our SEPTEMBER SPEAKER: Frank Velásquez Jr.! Storyteller Extraordinaire, Social Justice Warrior, and Community Connector. With a heart as big as his vision, Frank dances on the frontlines of change, armed with an unshakeable belief in racial and gender equity. As Founder of 4 Da Hood and the mastermind behind the Ascending Leaders in Color leadership program, he’s forging paths for Peeps of Color to lead with authenticity, courage, and joy! Because for Frank, advancing equity isn’t just a job — it’s a movement towards building generational wealth for communities of color to thrive! • Our theme for September is REFLECTION. It was chosen by our Oklahoma City chapter in Oklahoma and illustrated by Aditi Heins. Just like an echo is a reflection of sound… and how a camera lens focuses reflected light to form a photograph… our subconscious reflects on our experiences to form our beliefs. Without reflection, there can be no personal growth. Learning from our past yields greater wisdom and happiness. But don’t let self-awareness turn into self-absorption. Take heed of the Greek myth of Narcissus, who fell in love with his own handsome reflection in a pool of water. Reflecting on difficult moments can be painful but also healing. When our Oklahoma City chapter selected this theme, they mentioned a reflecting pool at the site of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing that was designed to help people reflect on how they were changed by that tragic event. Pondering the world around us and following our curiosity adds depth to our creative work. As William Shakespeare wrote in Hamlet, the purpose of acting is “to hold as ‘twere the mirror up to nature.” While George Bernard Shaw said, “you use a glass mirror to see your face; you use works of art to see your soul.” (Although Bertolt Brecht countered, “Art is not a mirror held up to reality, but a hammer with which to shape it.”) Reflection turns our traumas and triumphs into lessons. It’s how we can create a vision for a brighter future.
