This milestone represents a significant opportunity for CREW to provide high-quality carbon removal credits to the federal government. 💰 At CREW, we believe that carbon dioxide removal can be a key economic driver for Connecticut and across the U.S. By harnessing the CO2-removing power of naturally occurring minerals and collaborating with water resource recovery facilities, we can achieve measurable and permanent greenhouse gas removal. Thank you to Stacy Kauk, P.Eng., Head of Sustainability at Shopify, for continuing to be the leader that the carbon removal space needs! Shopify has committed $55M to 40 startups for 85,000 tons of high-quality CDR since 2019. She recently spoke with Shayle Kann at Energy Impact Partners and gave a nice shoutout to CREW: “We are seeing a lot of activity in enhanced rock weathering because that is very quick to deploy… when a lot of the purchases started happening in the early days (2020 and 2021), there was that $100 per ton price target at scale that was put out there, whether or not that is achievable is one thing but it’s something you can use in order to have a baseline comparison point across different technologies and approaches, which the market has taken and internalized; we are seeing an emergence of new types of approaches in carbon removal that are really trying to do it at a low price; some are using wastes and doing it with existing infrastructure, examples of that are CREW Carbon which is doing carbon removal through wastewater treatment plants."
