Know Before You Go! Still have to vote? When the polls are closed, poll workers should proclaim loudly, “The polls are closed.” No voters who arrive after the polls close may cast votes. Any voter (including a voter dropping off a vote-by-mail ballot) who is in line at 8:00 p.m. when the polls are scheduled to close is allowed to vote. If there is a line when the polls close, a poll worker should stand at the back of the line to let people who arrive after 8:00 p.m. know that the polls have closed. Any voter who arrives after the polls have closed may not be allowed to vote, even if voters who were in line to vote before the polls closed are in the process of voting. Last week, a few of our Head Start staff walked the halls of the Capitol during the National Head Start Association's Fall Leadership Institute. Right now, key decision-makers in our nation’s capital are in the process of considering difficult spending trade-offs, with competing priorities facing a limited pool of money. Decisions made this fall, stand to have a profound impact on Head Start’s work. It is critical that members of Congress and their staff hear firsthand how important Head Start is to the communities they serve. So, our team, along with more than 90 HS representatives from California, and even more from across the country: - Met with members of Congress - Attended advocacy trainings - Engaged in discussions on how Head Start programs are leading in their communities - Grew their knowledge in media training, leadership development, and family advocacy efforts! Head Start representatives met with Representative Seth Magaziner, Representative Maxine Waters, Representative Dan Kildee, Representative Mike Lawler, Representative Juan Ciscomani, and staff from Senator Alex Padilla's office. Thanks to Yasmina Vinci, National Head Start Executive Director, and the NHSA team for bringing us together so we can continue to advocate for the nearly 800,000 pregnant women, and pregnant people in centers, family homes, and family child care homes Head Start serves. Early Head Start and Head Start is rooted in urban, suburban, and rural communities throughout the nation and we will continue to speak up for our families! And, did you know, Project 2025 wants to eliminate the Head Start program? That's almost 800,000 children and families who would no longer have accessible, free early care and education. No school means parents cannot go to work. Speak up to make sure there are no cuts to Head Start! Not now. Not ever. #Leadership #DC #HeadStart #EarlyHeadStart #SayNotoProject2025 #KeepHeadStart #TheCapitol #WeNeedTeachers #FreePreschool #ECE #EarlyCareAndEducation #Advocate #SpeakUp #Rally

On Saturday, the AAPN (African American Provider Network) hosted UCLAXCareerBridge for our first in person class! This is a year long program for child care providers to earn their Associate Teacher Certificate. Our quarterly in-person classes provide AAPN members an opportunity to connect, network, learn with each other, and build upon their shared knowledge. Some child care providers are just starting on this career path. Some members are decades into running successful businesses and want to continue to invest in the children and families they serve, with the new knowledge they'll gather from this certificate program. This is free to AAPN members and an investment in each person and the communities they serve. Thank you to everyone who joined us and our wonderful UCLA instructor!
