Communication Science Against Antibiotic Resistance reposted this

Yes! Innovations are needed. But we also need to do what we can already do—such as reducing unnecessary use of antibiotics.
Before the Olympics end, we have an Antimicrobial Resistance (#AMR) Olympics meme for you. :) AMR should be trending, too, as one of the world's greatest global health crises. In the 2024 The Lancet Series on AMR, written by a group of experts brought together by OHT's Ramanan Laxminarayan, the authors show that pushing interventions we know, including universal water, sanitation, and hygiene access (#WASH); childhood vaccines; and infection control and prevention in hospitals could stop 750,000 deaths related to drug-resistant infections every year. AMR is an urgent issue, but we can take action and make a difference now! Ahead of the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on AMR, the Lancet series proposes global targets to reach by 2030 of a 10% reduction in deaths from AMR by reducing misuse of antibiotics in humans by 20% and in animals by 30% (10-20-30 by 2030) to ensure action is taken globally to address this growing problem.
