In orchards, simple practices like mulching and mowing vegetation from the alleys onto the tree rows do more than protect—they can boost water retention and add carbon to the soil. Tianna Dupont, co-leader of our Tree Fruit LTARE site, reveals the vibrant soil life that thrives under a blanket of grass mulch, visible even to the naked eye in the high carbon treatment. Unlike traditional wood-chip mulch, this method has the added benefit of being less inviting to furry pests like moles and voles, which can cause significant tree damage. Learn more about the practices being investigated at this LTARE site here: https://lnkd.in/gb3fWXP7
