It was our honor and pleasure for our very own April Steger to join this collaborative panel discussion serving Central Texas and Houston-Galveston maritime and port partners last week. Events like this allow for excellent discussions and learning opportunities across industries and communities. For CTEH, this is in service of our Vision: To be the most trusted and valued resource to the companies, governments and communities we serve in times of need.
Yesterday, under my responsibility as Federal On-Scene Coordinator and Area Maritime Security Coordinator, we hosted nearly 200 port and maritime partners for a first-time joint meeting of our Central Texas Area Committee (CTAC) and our Houston-Galveston Area Maritime Security Committee (AMSC) for an incredible morning filled with networking and great discussions on cyber security, maritime firefighting, oil & hazardous materials, pipelines, medical health & safety…and so much more. Following a panel of experts from the Texas National Guard 6th Civil Support Team; USCG National Strike Force’s Gulf Strike Team; CTEH; U.S EPA; TCEQ; Channel Industries Mutual Aid (CIMA), and Applied Security Convergence, we had an excellent overview of the growth of our ports by the Greater Houston Port Bureau, and heard captivating presentations on maritime lithium ion battery case studies by the Port Houston Fire Department, as well as an informative world perspective on the developments of ammonia as a future fuel in the maritime environment and for world-wide use by Hoctant. Our recently established CTAC subcommittees, and our long-standing AMSC subcommittees then briefed out their relative updates, status and future focus. Thank you everyone who participated, it was an outstanding cross-pollination of expertise and experience to better align us and our capabilities in an effort to further efforts aimed at Preventing, Preparing, and Responding to our common emerging risks. GREAT JOB Matt Tilimon, Larry Johnson and Tyson Muniz for putting it all together! ———— Area Committees are required by the National Contingency Plan (40CFR300), so that all levels of government, industry, and stakeholders can best work together to develop and manage Area Contingency Plans (ACP) for responding to both oil spills and hazardous substance releases. Area Maritime Security Committees (AMSC) were established by the Maritime Transportation Security Act (using the NCPs model for Area Committees) to provide a link for contingency planning, development, review, and update of Area Maritime Security Plans (AMSP), and to enhance communication between port stakeholders within federal, state and local agencies, and industry to address maritime security issues. ——- Chris Wolski, MBA, CISSP, GICSP, CCP, CCA Eric M.
