Bringing life to a critical waterway, our Tucson team joined over 80 volunteers to remove an incredible one ton of trash from the Santa Cruz River. Organized by the Sonoran Institute, this cleanup is part of a larger effort to restore the river’s health and future. It’s proof that when a community comes together, real change flows! 🌊 #SWCAGivesBack

From exploring the depths of underwater history to shaping the future of cultural preservation, Dr. Suanna Selby Crowley, PhD, RPA and Anthony Gilchrist recently shared their knowledge at the Society for Historical Archaeology’s annual meeting in New Orleans. Suanna, a Lead Archaeologist with a specialty in geoarchaeology, led a session focused on training the next generation of cultural resource management professionals. Her national work on workforce development is shaping sustainable career pathways in heritage fields. Anthony, a Cultural Resources Technician with a specialty in underwater #archaeology, shared his research on shipwrecks in Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire. His website, linked here, is dedicated to promoting ethical shipwreck diving while preserving the historical legacy beneath the surface. https://lnkd.in/g4P-GWaX We’re proud of our team’s impact on advancing #CulturalResource management and #HistoricPreservation.

Dust off your environmental dictionary with us! This month’s term to learn is #MitigationBanking. Mitigation banking is a system that restores, establishes, enhances, or preserves natural #habitats to offset environmental impacts from development. These “banks” generate credits that developers can purchase to meet regulatory requirements for habitat #conservation. This system ensures that progress and preservation go hand in hand. Stay tuned for the next eco term of the month! 🌿

In his octogenarian years, our founder Dr. Steven Carothers still can’t resist spending time in the field and studying #species up close. When he got wind of nighttime scorpion #surveys happening in southern Nevada, he jumped at the chance to join colleagues Gabrielle Blanchette, Christina Torres, Marisol Sanchez, and Sophie Huard in the #desert. Gabby remarked about the experience, “He was so onboard to get out there and chase some scorps! Overall, I think it was great to get to meet Dr. Carothers and talk #science, #careers, and get to know him. I appreciate his passion for science and encouragement to pursue publications and the technical track as a consultant.” Dr. Steven Carothers also shared, “I have always been curious about any and all of the work we do so I jumped at the chance to get out there in the field and to meet folks. And I was incredibly impressed. These young #scientists were so professional and so excited about the work that they were doing. I was just so inspired by the thrill with which they approached their jobs; that was what made it all worthwhile. And I got to handle a whole bunch of scorpions.” Cheers to #mentorship moments and our promising young scientists!

Are you ready to meet the growing demands of state-mandated extended producer responsibility (EPR) programs? EPR laws are transforming #packaging waste management across the U.S., with Maine, Oregon, California, Colorado, and Minnesota passing EPR packaging legislation so far. These laws require producers to fund #recycling efforts, creating both challenges and opportunities for consumer goods companies. In our Unpacking EPR series, our experts break down these #regulations and provide actionable insights to help businesses navigate evolving requirements and stay informed on EPR packaging #legislation. The first reporting deadline is just months away with Oregon requiring producers to submit their first reports in March of this year. Every moment counts when it comes to #compliance, so don't miss these expert insights! #ExtendedProducerResponsibility
