The Clemson University Balkans Foundation strengthens connections between our Alma Mater and the Balkan region.

About us

The Clemson University Balkans Foundation, composed of +200 Clemson Alumni, is dedicated to the promotion, support, and extension of opportunities for students and faculty interested in the Western Balkans Region (Former Republics of Yugoslavia). Since 2006, Clemson has sent students on study-abroad trips to the Balkans, led by former career Yugoslav Senior Diplomat and Clemson Professor, Vladimir Matic. These programs consist of interactive meetings with senior foreign government officials, detailed study of the unique and diverse history and politics of the region, and engagement with counterparts in visiting countries. Following participation in the Balkans Programs and related coursework, Clemson students are well equipped as leaders for participation in a variety of fields, able to analyze and dissect highly complex challenges, engage and communicate with leaders and colleagues of different backgrounds and views, and work hard to produce positive impact across the world. The Balkans Foundation through promotion and support of the Balkans Programs, Clemson Political Science Department and Clemson Alumni, works to develop programs and experiences producing global leaders equipped and motivated to help solve international challenges in government, international relations, the non-profit sector, and business.
