About us

Addressing the historical segregation in Milwaukee is our priority at Culture By Design. We recognize that the lack of cultural diversity limits social interactions within our community spaces. In our commitment to fostering vibrant, diverse, and inclusive communities, we aim to break down these barriers by creating spaces celebrating diversity and artistic expression. This, in turn, helps to forge connections that strengthen local unity while increasing awareness and understanding. Founded by award-winning cultural engagement professionals Geraud Blanks and Maureen Post, Culture By Design, LLC (Culture x Design) organizes year-round programming and social events championing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Collaborating with corporate connector and community bridge-builder Ranell Washington, Culture x Design builds on the impactful work initiated during their tenure at Milwaukee Film. This period saw the creation of nationally recognized programs such as the Black Lens program, the Black Birth Maternal Health Symposium, and the Cultures & Communities Initiative & Festival. Our inclusive cultural experiences go beyond boundaries, fostering community connections through thought-provoking programming and public forums. Led by local intellectuals, influencers, and community leaders, our monthly events focus on commemorating diverse heritage months such as Black History, Women’s History, Asian-American Pacific Islander, Pride, Hispanic Heritage, and Native American Heritage. Dive into topic-driven programming with events like our “Black Birth” Maternal and Infant Health Symposium, or enjoy entertainment with our “Summer of Soul” Music Series and Culture x Design Conference/Festival. We invite you to join us in creating an inclusive and vibrant Milwaukee.
