Last month, we had a great time at Independent Lodging Congress' INDIEConfab. We may be biased because it was at The Hutton Hotel, a Curacity customer, where Nick Slavin moderated a conversation with Homi Vazifdar of The Canyon Group. Who will attend INDIECultivate next month at (another Curacity customer!) Park Lane New York?

Curacity has acquired A Hotel Life, betting on human content in the AI era. Founded by EDITION Hotels veteran Ben Pundole, A Hotel Life was one of the first digital media brands to take a hyper-personal approach to hotel content. "Combining AHL's editorial excellence with Curacity's technology, we can cut through the noise, show hotels clear ROI, and help media brands monetize," said Curacity CEO and co-founder Nick Slavin. "It's a win-win-win." "Our acquisition by Curacity will ensure A Hotel Life can continue to celebrate the best, most creative hotels in the world," said Tansy Kaschak, editor-in-chief of AHL, who Curacity has retained to ensure the continuity of brand identity and editorial standards. "We have partnered with Curacity since its inception and admire all they've accomplished. We are excited to work together and see AHL reach its full potential under their umbrella." Curacity's Senior Director of Sales, Alex Pensyl, shares insights from a New York City Tourism + Conventions presentation from HSMAI New York City's latest chapter event. 💡 👇
Updates from today’s HSMAI New York City Chapter Event: The event featured a presentation from New York City Tourism + Conventions, offering a deep dive into what’s shaping our market and the road ahead. Here are some key takeaways that stood out: ✨ 2024 ADR: New York City continues to lead the way, with an ADR of $314, reflecting an impressive +28% increase over 2019. 💰 ✨ 2024 Hotel Supply: With 121,700 rooms currently in the market, supply remains unchanged from 2023 but is still 3% lower than 2019. 🏨 ✨ Visitor Trends: NYC remains a top destination, attracting 80% domestic travelers, with a significant focus on overnight stays and day trips. 🌆 ✨ Competition: NYC faces strong competition from other major U.S. cities for both convention and leisure travelers but continues to stand out with unmatched cultural attractions that drive both business and events. 🎭 ✨ Business Travel: Still a key growth area, as BT continues to lag behind other recovering segments. 📉 I’m energized to collaborate with HSMAI New York City as I step into my new role as Senior Director of Sales with Curacity, helping to drive demand for hotels in this wonderful city and properties that are uniquely New York. We as an industry have the opportunity to amplify NYC’s global leadership in travel and hospitality. If you’re interested in exploring how we can partner to grow your hotel's business and connect with travelers in new ways, let’s chat!

Brave new world. Trip planning (and soon, payments/execution) is becoming commoditized. This level of streamlining will increase the amount of travel we do, and makes it that much more important for hotels and other travel suppliers to create new demand by influencing the guest before AI helps them plan their trip. cc: Santi Marchiori
Demo video of ChatGPT's new "Operator" AI agent using an integration with Booking.com to book a flight. Video is sped up, worth pausing to digest what's happening. Looks smoother than some of the other demos I've seen (e.g. Claude, MultiOn). How many ChatGPT users will start their searches and maybe even book this way soon? Payment appears to be done manually by the user for now. At some point they'll need to integrate website logins and likely store credit cards (a la Perplexity Shopping), and will almost definitely eventually integrate digital wallets for seamless payments. As well as digital identity to fill out personal info. Video credit Rowan Cheung Likely of interest: Mitra Sorrells Tony Carne Christian Watts Gilad Berenstein Norm Rose Robert Cole Alex Bainbridge

🛑 Stop Using These Overplayed Hotel Marketing Phrases 🛑 Phrases like "home away from home" or "luxury redefined" aren’t helping your property stand out. They’re overused, uninspired, and fail to connect with your potential guests who want stories, specifics, and reasons to dream about their stay. Here are 10 Hotel Marketing Clichés to Avoid (and what to say instead): 1️⃣ Home Away From Home 👉 Highlight unique comfort features or guest testimonials instead. 2️⃣ Something for Everyone 👉 Focus on your core audience and craft tailored messaging. 3️⃣ Luxury Redefined 👉 Be specific: Is it your amenities, bedding, or Michelin-starred dining? 4️⃣ Unforgettable Experiences 👉 Show exactly what makes them unforgettable—think chef-led tours or sunset cruises. 5️⃣ Nestled in the Heart of [Destination] 👉 Share what’s unique about your location, like proximity to hidden gems or landmarks. 6️⃣ Relax and Unwind 👉 Use sensory language to highlight amenities that deliver relaxation. 7️⃣ The Best Kept Secret 👉 Showcase what makes your property special—awards, exclusivity, or rave reviews. 8️⃣ Award-Winning [X] 👉 Specify the award and why it matters to guests. 9️⃣ Perfect for Business or Leisure 👉 Segment messaging for business travelers vs. leisure guests. 🔟 Your Stay, Your Way 👉 Provide real examples of customizable guest experiences. Want to make your messaging stand out? Once you’ve nailed the details, use Curacity’s Content Hub to distribute your campaigns across 40+ top media brands like Travel + Leisure and AFAR. Let’s ditch the clichés and start creating stories that inspire. 💡 Curious about how we can help? Reach out for a Curacity demo.
