How can we make curriculum more accessible for students and families? In a recent LIVE discussion, Allison Zmuda and Natalie Carrignan, Director at Westport Public Schools, explored the power of Curriculum Storyboards to enhance clarity and engagement in education. Natalie shared how her journey began during a workshop, where she realized the potential of visual curriculum planning. “I saw it, and I said, ‘This is really interesting... you can see a whole year at once,’” she noted. By replacing jargon-filled documents with storyboards, we can create a more inclusive and family-friendly approach to learning. What are your thoughts on using visual tools in education? #CurriculumDesign #Education #StudentEngagement

Do you have any full-circle moments? I recently had one that brought my teaching journey into focus. During our 1-Day Curriculum Storyboards Institute, I reconnected with Cathy Rekos, a former student of mine who’s now a high school social studies teacher. It reminded me that the real impact isn’t in what I teach, but in the shared growth and relationships built along the way. Whether it’s one day or years, the legacy is in the ideas and actions that grow from these connections. Have you had a similar experience? I'd love to hear your stories. #education #curriculum #newsletter

Allison Zmuda and Bena Kallick spent the day at CREC with many members of the Eduplanet21 team to share Curriculum Storyboards with districts around the state of Connecticut! "If you don't streamline US history or biology or grade two reading, then all of a sudden you don't have a base to build up or actually inherit the grade level below," says Allison. "But when it comes to streamlining, the other interesting, important piece of this is that streamlining isn't just to make it more efficient. It also is modernizing the experience." Curriculum Storyboards Coach Kristina Fulton writes to leveraging storyboards for Math curriculum. She says: Consider these tips when reimagining your mathematics curriculum: REFLECT ON CURRENT PRACTICES: Does my curriculum foster connections and patterns, or does it emphasize isolated skills? How do students perceive math in our school—engaging or disconnected? EXAMINE THE GROUPING OF STANDARDS AND SKILLS: What is the overarching concept or big idea that ties this grouping together? Why does this grouping matter, and how does it contribute to students’ overall understanding? How will this organization of content engage students in meaningful learning rather than just rote memorization? How will students interact with the content to deepen their understanding? FOCUS ON REAL-WORLD APPLICATION: How can I connect the skills and standards in each unit to real-world problems that are relevant to my students? What types of applications would spark my students’ interest and curiosity? How can I ensure that these applications are meaningful and connected to their lives? #curriculumstoryboards #curriculum #math Allison Zmuda Heidi Hayes Jacobs Bena Kallick
