Cycle for Survival is the movement to beat rare cancers. Every dollar raised goes to research at MSK.

About us

Cycle for Survival is the movement to beat rare cancers. 100% of every dollar raised is directly allocated to rare cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) within six months of the close of fundraising annually. Cycle for Survival has raised over $342 million since it first began in 2007. This milestone reflects the determination and generosity of our passionate community. Approximately 50% of people with cancer are battling a rare cancer, but they often have limited or no treatment options because rare cancer research is drastically underfunded. Together with founding partner, Equinox, Cycle for Survival funding has supported pioneering clinical trials, research studies and major scientific initiatives at MSK, leading to new and better treatment options for patients worldwide. Brian and Jessica embarked on an extraordinary journey last month, taking on the inaugural Race Across the East, a cycling race that covers 630 miles of the renowned Race Across America route! They began in Blanchester, OH, winding through five states, and finished on the famed Atlantic City Boardwalk on the New Jersey shore. Riding relay-style, they accumulated 39,586 feet of elevation gain between them. Their effort was fueled by a shared mission: to raise funds for research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in honor of loved ones affected by rare cancers. Through their remarkable ride, they succeeded in raising over $30,000, providing crucial support for advancing research and finding cures for rare cancers. #CycleforSurvival

Today is MSK Giving Day. Hear from Sydney about her MSK story.    "Today and every day, I am so grateful to be part of this community — and I hope you’ll join me in supporting Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center today, while your gift can go 3X as far thanks to a special match offer.    My MSK story started in 2016 when my sister, Kelsea, decided to join a Cycle for Survival team and asked our family to donate. We were more than happy to support the great cause my sister was passionate about.    But the importance of the MSK Giving community became a lot more personal for us in 2020. While on a trip celebrating her one-year wedding anniversary, Kelsea had to be medevaced to MSK with a cancer diagnosis of her own.    The doctors at MSK said that if we had arrived just four hours later, Kelsea would not have made it through that night. But thanks to the quick work, MSK’s team gave us two and a half months together.     Two and a half more months of hugs.   Two and a half more months of ‘I love yous’.   Two and a half more months of meaningful moments (including a particularly special day when my sister and I watched ‘The Holiday’ three times in a row).    Before her diagnosis, Kelsea had already signed up for the next Cycle for Survival season. She didn’t get to be there, but I was able to ride in her honor in a room full of the most incredible and supportive people.    I’m grateful that this community was by Kelsea’s side, and that she, and our family, didn’t have to fight that battle alone. I still miss Kelsea terribly every day, but I honor and remember her by supporting MSK’s mission of ending cancer for life. (I even named my daughter Sloan in honor of MSK and my sister.)    We have to keep raising money to support the critical research happening at MSK. So I really hope you won’t miss this opportunity to triple your impact." ––Sydney S. #CycleforSurvival #MSK Get triple matched: https://lnkd.in/eV5xJaY7

Dr. Andrea Cercek is an oncologist and a researcher Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and #CycleforSurvival funding recipient. She led an immunotherapy trial that achieved an almost unheard of 100% remission rate for every participant. The odds of that happening are one in a trillion, and that outcome would never have been possible without you and other MSK supporters.     Tomorrow is MSK Giving Day. For Jennifer Brosnan, an Associate Director for Content Operations at MSK, joining Cycle for Survival was initially a way to honor her aunt who died of leukemia. Jennifer was working as a television news producer when a friend invited her to hop on a stationary bike and join their Cycle for Survival team. Several years later, Jennifer landed a job at MSK and in a matter of months, she became captain of In It To Spin It, the MSK Marketing & Communication department’s Cycle for Survival team. Jennifer has participated in Cycle for Survival rides for 12 years and along the way, she and her team have raised more than $136,000 for rare cancer research, with 100% of every dollar going directly to MSK labs. Through her work, Jennifer makes regular visits to MSK labs and clinics for film shoots. She says that meeting researchers and seeing the results of her fundraising is one of the best parts of her job. “It’s truly a direct line of impact,” she says. “I feel lucky to be here.”

When Hazel was just two years old, she was diagnosed with Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH). Her incredible mom, Alex, started the Cycle for Survival team Hazel Strong to raise critical funds for research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where Hazel is currently receiving treatment. This past season, Hazel Strong rode at Cycle for Survival in Summit, NJ, raising over $354,000, through creative fundraising ideas such as a hot chocolate stand, school walkathon, and color war event. But the team's efforts didn’t stop once the season ended in April. Alex created a fundraising page after the event to keep the momentum going and so far the team has raised an additional $6,300! Thank you, Hazel Strong, for your unwavering dedication to raising money for MSK! #CycleforSurvival
