Nonprofit grocery store chain, providing healthy affordable food to the communities that need it most.

About us

Daily Table is a nonprofit grocery food store which seeks to transform how groceries are supplied in America’s inner cities and alleviate obstacles to inner-city health and nutrition by providing fresh produce and other high-quality foods to the urban marketplace at a fraction of the typical prices. Founded by former Trader Joe’s President, Doug Rauch, Daily Table creates a retail environment that utilizes excess wholesome, healthy food items to create grab-n-go meals and grocery items at affordable prices. By fostering a strategic network of growers, supermarkets, manufacturers, and other suppliers, Daily Table is helping to address the paradoxical issues of domestic hunger and obesity in America’s inner cities.

“I shop here because it’s healthier. It’s my community. [Daily Table] gives us inexpensive options.” Shaunitia and her son Cornelius shop at the Daily Table store in Roxbury, stocking up on kale, apples, and berries. Shaunitia is a single mom of three — and she wouldn’t be able to purchase as many fruits and vegetables without Daily Table’s low prices. She says, “I love it here. It’s affordable. It significantly helps me to eat more fruits and vegetables.” 86% of households experiencing food insecurity bought the cheapest food available to help put food on the table (GBFB, 2024). Unfortunately, that often means unhealthy food. But not at Daily Table. Will you Commit Your Cart to help moms like Shaunitia to afford fresh fruits and vegetables? This morning, our CEO, Sasha Purpura, sat down with James 'Jimmy' Hills to discuss Daily Table's role in building healthier communities. Thank you, #JavaWithJimmy, for creating a space to address these important issues and for helping us spread the word about our essential resource!

In this episode, we sit down with Sasha, the CEO of Daily Table, to explore her unique journey from the tech industry to food justice leadership. With a career that began in software engineering and management, Sasha discovered her passion for food sustainability after launching an organic farm in 2005. This passion led her to pivot into nonprofit work, where she spent over a decade transforming Food For Free into a regional leader in food access. Now, as the CEO of Daily Table, Sasha brings her wealth of experience to tackle nutrition insecurity in the Greater Boston area.

Did you know that 37% of public university students in Massachusetts face food insecurity? As they juggle rising tuition costs, housing, and other living expenses, many students are struggling to afford even basic groceries. Here’s where you can step in and make a difference. At Daily Table, we're committed to supporting our community—and that includes the 150,000 college students living in Boston. As the cost of living continues to climb, access to affordable, nutritious food is becoming even more critical. It’s Hunger Action Month, and right now, we need hunger heroes like you to help us take action. We’re looking for 10 hunger heroes to give the amount of their last grocery bill TODAY. Commit your Cart > https://lnkd.in/etyxFzr7

September is Hunger Action Month—a nationwide effort to raise awareness about hunger in America and inspire action. At Daily Table, as a non-profit organization, we consider ourselves a hunger-relief organization masquerading as your neighborhood grocery store. Thanks to your support, we are proud to be on the front lines of this movement, serving 12,000 families every week across our five stores with nutritious, affordable food. We believe that everyone should have access to nutritious food, no matter their financial situation. With your help, we’re making hunger history, along with hundreds of other organizations across MA. While food pantries and banks do incredible work, they alone cannot meet the ongoing needs of our communities. That’s why we’re here—to offer a sustainable, long-term solution. But we can’t do it without you. This Hunger Action Month, we invite you to Commit Your Cart by donating the amount of your last grocery bill. At Daily Table, your donation goes even further—because our stores cover 2/3 of our operating costs, every $1 you give has 3x the impact! By contributing, you’re helping ensure that everyone in Massachusetts has access to the nutritious food they need. https://lnkd.in/eBScFZgn
