Creating breakthrough technologies for national security.
About us
DARPA is an agency of the U.S. Department of Defense with a singular and enduring mission: to make pivotal investments in breakthrough technologies for national security. The Agency explicitly reaches for transformational change instead of incremental advances. To do so, it works within an innovation ecosystem that includes academic, corporate and governmental partners, with a constant focus on the Nation’s military Services, which work with DARPA to create new strategic opportunities and novel tactical options. DARPA comprises approximately 220 government employees in six technical offices, including nearly 100 program managers, who together oversee about 250 research and development programs. DARPA goes to great lengths to identify, recruit and support excellent program managers—extraordinary individuals who are at the top of their fields and are hungry for the opportunity to push the limits of their disciplines. These leaders, who are at the very heart of DARPA’s history of success, come from academia, industry and government agencies for limited stints, generally three to five years. That deadline fuels the signature DARPA urgency to achieve success in less time than might be considered reasonable in a conventional setting. Program managers address challenges broadly, spanning the spectrum from deep science to systems to capabilities, but ultimately they are driven by the desire to make a difference. They define their programs, set milestones, meet with their performers and assiduously track progress. But they are also constantly probing for the next big thing in their fields, communicating with leaders in the scientific and engineering community to identify new challenges and potential solutions. DARPA is always on the lookout for outstanding individuals who can meet our demanding needs in the Agency’s technical and support offices. Interested individuals may submit a resume/CV to employment@darpa.mil.

In the world of emergency response, the difference between life and death often hinges on rapid, accurate triage. For decades, the methods and approach to triage have remained largely stagnant. That’s why we’re excited to share the perspective of DARPA program manager, Dr. JP Chretien, on why and how we’re tackling advances in medical triage. JP dives deep into the DARPA Triage Challenge, a groundbreaking initiative designed to accelerate the development of novel physiological markers for triage. This program is set to revolutionize how we identify injury signatures, especially in mass casualty incidents where medical resources are stretched thin. 🌐🩺 By fostering advancements that enable scalable, timely, and precise triage, the Challenge aims to transform both civilian and military emergency response protocols. There is still time to get involved! Check out the video to learn about the future of emergency medicine and how innovation can lead to lifesaving breakthroughs! https://lnkd.in/eX-H99jE #MedicalInnovation #Triage #EmergencyResponse #HealthTech #MassCasualty #MedicalTriage #Innovation

Our service members are operating in an ever-expanding range of extreme conditions and are subject to a variety of environmental and battlefield threats. As such, personal protective equipment (PPE) is of vast importance to keep our warfighters safe and mission-ready in these extreme environments. Warfighter and Defense Related Outfits to Buffer Extreme Environments (WarDROBE) is an open-topic Small business Technology Transfer (STTR) opportunity at DARPA seeking to address these needs. The WarDROBE STTR effort is challenging small businesses and research institutions to collaborate and innovate solutions to shortcomings of current state-of-the-art PPE for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives (CBRNE) or environmental threats in terrestrial, maritime, and space domains. The open-topic solicitation gives proposers the flexibility to identify a critical protection or performance limitation in existing PPE, then design a material or component to overcome that problem. The goals of WarDROBE include exploring and pioneering advancements in PPE, and scaling these technologies within the Department of Defense, as well as commercial sectors. The WarDROBE Open-Topic STTR solicitation can be found at https://ow.ly/9zo050T593H #PPE #extremeenvironments #CBRNE #STTR
