From surviving on the streets to supporting his family of four – meet Mr. Abebe*. When Daughters of Charity first met him, he was struggling with partial paralysis from childhood polio and homelessness. Today, thanks to a skills training and housing support program with the Sisters in Ethiopia, he runs his own sewing business and can provide for his family. Your donation empowers Sisters to create lasting change through practical solutions like vocational training and housing assistance. Fort Dauphin Central Prison in Madagascar faces severe challenges in providing adequate food, hygiene, and healthcare to its inmates. This burden often falls on the inmates' families, who themselves lack resources to meet these basic needs. In response to this pressing issue, local Daughters of Charity have initiated a program to offer meals, medical care, hygiene essentials and religious instruction to inmates. Currently, the Sisters deliver care and support to approximately 70 prisoners. This ministry fills a critical gap in services for incarcerated individuals in Madagascar. By ensuring their access to nutritious food, proper medical attention, and sanitary living conditions, the Sisters are setting these inmates up for a better chance at rehabilitation and possible reentry in the local community. Help support the Sisters' efforts to care for vulnerable prisoners in Madagascar by donating to DC IPS. 100% of your donation goes directly to Sisters and their work around the world. In the city of Mbandaka, Congo, there is no government service that addresses the problem of juvenile delinquency. The local authority in charge of caring for the social needs of abandoned youth in the city simply “solves the problem” by arresting them and putting them in the Central Prison. Cohabitation with hardened criminals only puts the youth more at risk. Additionally, there is no follow-up program available for released prisoners to assist their reintegration into society. It is crucial for prisoners to have support while transitioning back into society to reduce recidivism and increase the safety of the community. Sisters have designed a program to fill these gaps in services and better serve their community. For those with an interest and an aptitude for agriculture, a large field, farm tools, supervisors, a salary and, in the end, the possibility of participation in the benefits of the harvest are available. For those with other interests, local professionals were consulted to offer paid apprenticeships. Participants can choose to work with an electrician, a mason, a seamstress, or a carpenter. Local business owners willing to take on apprentices can be mentors to participants committed to learning new skills. Apprentices will be provided with all necessary materials and will be taught the skills necessary to become thriving members of the community. This program will provide options for skill-building to increase vocational opportunity for both at risk juveniles and released prisoners. Support innovative and compassionate programs like this by donating to DC IPS. 100% of your donation goes directly to Sisters and their work around the world. HIV/AIDS has devastated communities across Africa, leaving countless children orphaned and vulnerable. In Tanzania, the Sisters are providing crucial educational support for these children. The program offers a lifeline, helping children and young people build stable and prosperous futures through education from primary school to college. To continue their mission and give these children the best possible opportunities, Sisters are seeking to secure education resources including new textbooks, school uniforms, and funds to assist in school fees. The DREAM Center in Mbandaka, Democratic Republic of Congo, has been a beacon of hope for people living with HIV/AIDS. In response to patients dying without proper care, Daughters of Charity are providing comprehensive treatment, including critical nutritional support. To date, Sisters have treated over 2,000 HIV/AIDS patients, helped 400 HIV-free babies be born to HIV-positive mothers, and counseled more than 17,400 individuals. To continue serving those in need, the Sisters have developed a program to meet the nutritional needs of HIV/AIDS patients. Without the Sisters’ help, many patients would not have balanced, sufficient diets to support their treatment and recovery. This nutritional program is often the difference between life and death for those most vulnerable. Support the Daughters of Charity’s vital nutrition program in DRC by donating to DC IPS. 100% of your donation goes directly to the Sisters and their work around the world. The Carmelo Hospital in Chokwe, Mozambique, has been a crucial healthcare provider for HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis patients since 2002. As part of their DREAM program, they offer comprehensive care to over 8,300 patients, including 357 children under 15. The hospital serves a population facing extreme poverty, limited education, and high rates of HIV/AIDS. To continue providing high-quality care, the hospital urgently needs to update its computer system. This upgrade is vital for managing patient records, treatment plans, and overall healthcare delivery in the DREAM program. The project aims to purchase and install 15 new desktop computers and 5 printers, ensuring efficient data management and improved patient care.
