This morning, we had the honor of hosting our Dax Program Expansion Study's kick off celebration. Members from City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), Depaul USA, JW Croft Consulting Group, and Chicago Dax student, Extrat, met at Depaul USA's headquarters to discuss the study's next steps. The study's intent is to evaluate how Chicago's Dax program may serve more CCC students while improving how services meets students' needs. A big thank you to City Colleges of Chicago and JW Croft for the support and assistance in launching this study.

As of Sept. 3, Depaul USA's Pine Bluff Opportunity House will be expanding its hours of operation from three days to five. This expansion is thanks to the West Foundation's generous grant which allows Opportunity House to serve more individuals and provide more frequent case management services. Matthew was homeless for 12 years before he found Nashville's Strobel Center. His birthday was coming up, but celebrating your birthday is not an amenity you can enjoy while figuring out where you're sleeping at night. Matthew said he would only be excited about his birthday if he received a cupcake. In response, the Center's residents & staff rallied together to throw Matthew a surprise birthday party with homemade Lucky Charms cupcakes. Matthew was full of smiles and his "second floor family" decided that, going forward, they would celebrate everyone's birthday. Having a home gives back birthdays.

This past Tuesday, Aug. 13, Depaul USA—New York City hosted the ribbon-cutting ceremony of its third Dax residence, Rosary Hall. Rosary Hall will serve an additional eight college students facing homelessness or housing insecurity. It was a beautiful, summer day in Riverdale. The ceremony was held outside on the Hall's terrace, overlooking the University of Mount Saint Vincent's infamous Doheny Mansion. In attedance were guests from the Mount, Sisters of Charity, St. John's University, and Depaul USA staff and board members. Various speakers, including the Mount's President, Dr. Burns, touched on the importance of New York City's Dax Program and its expansion. Following the speakers' moving notes, Rosary Hall's ribbon was cut and guests were invited inside for a tour of the space. A tremendous thank you to the Sisters of Charity for paving the way for Rosary Hall to come to fruition, the space, and for supporting Depaul USA—New York City through it all. Depaul USA—Los Angeles hosted its first ever "Taste of Depaul" event last Friday, Aug. 9, 2024. 🌮🍔🌯🍕 Guests enjoyed a variety of delicious food from six vendors and heard from speakers Sr. Joyce from the Daughters of Charity and Ed Braxton from United Way of Greater Los Angeles. A big thank you to United Way for its generosity, which allows Depaul USA—Los Angeles to better serve its community. Another big thank you to everyone who attended, the vendors who participated, and anyone that supported this special occasion! See you next year for round two!
