Whitpain Township Engineer Jim Blanch, PE, co-presented "Best Practices and Lessons Learned about Bridge Repair and Replacement" during a Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors (PSATS) Engineers Fall Seminar with Dawood Manager of Highway Services Jason Cowen, PE, and Executive VP Nicholas Brien, PE. The trio's discussion focused on the $1.6 million Pulaski Drive Bridge Replacement Project in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania—a 2023 Road and Bridge Safety Improvement Award winner recognized during the PSATS Annual Conference. As Whitpain's prime transportation engineering consultant, Dawood completed the project's design and bid process to replace the 1960 prestressed adjacent plank beam bridge with a pre-cast concrete box culvert. With a long design life, this high-strength solution minimizes long-term maintenance. A portion of work was funded through the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission’s municipal bridge retro-reimbursement program.
