  • At DfG, we believe in local leadership. There are currently 87 DfG Social Enterprises globally. Our Social Enterprise Program equips local leaders with tools and resources to drive sustainable change, support people who menstruate, and strengthen communities while generating income. These Social Enterprises are established and run by community members who produce and sell washable menstrual pads and provide essential menstrual health education. To date, DfG Social Enterprises have reached over 1,207,000 people. Read this story to learn about one of our incredible Enterprises! https://bit.ly/3X8mWRK

  • “Being a Period Positive Workplace was only natural for our organization,” said a Dignifica representative. DIGNIFICA TU VIDA I. A. P. Tu Vida, an organization dedicated to serving Indigenous women and children in Mexico, recently became a Period Positive Workplace. Since becoming a certified PPW, Dignifica has adopted a more conscientious approach to collaborating with women, learning about menstrual health, and normalizing the conversation around periods. These are all steps that promote gender equality. Creating a menstrual-equitable environment takes time. “Part of the process is learning, not imposing,” commented a Dignifica representative. They also noted that becoming a PPW has increased communication in their organization and created a more respectful environment. “It is better for everyone to be in a workplace that acknowledges it [menstruation].” Read the full Period Positive Testimonial here! https://bit.ly/3SlhKqD

  • We love seeing DfG in the news! In May, Lindiwe and Puleng, leaders from Days for Girls’ Enterprise in Eswatini, were interviewed on a national Eswatini morning show. During the interview, they discussed the importance of menstrual health equity and the need for advocacy against menstrual stigma. “Let's define what menstrual equity is,” said the male host, opening up this vital conversation on national news. In response, Lindiwe articulated the definition, “As a woman, [you] should not be held back by menstruation.” Their open and honest discussion promoted greater menstrual equity. We are proud of the work the DfG Enterprise in Eswatini is doing to cultivate local and national environments of menstrual support. They are creating male menstrual allies and turning periods into pathways for girls and women across Eswatini. • One year after Spain's groundbreaking legislation to federally protect menstrual leave, Days for Girls examined the pros and cons of Spain’s menstrual leave policies. Key findings include: - An average of 4.75 employees per day used Spain's policy from June 2023 to April 2024, in a workforce of over 21 million. - Data shows that the policy is not being abused, but that its usage has stabilized monthly. - Accessibility issues, such as the need for a doctor's note and diagnosed menstrual conditions, may contribute to the low uptake. - There has been no evidence of discrimination, although privacy concerns might deter employees from taking the leave they deserve. Safe, supportive menstrual health environments promote gender equality in the workplace, shatter period-related barriers to progress, and lead to more productive workplaces. • At Days for Girls, we focus on advocacy to change social norms and develop supportive policies for people who menstruate through campaigning, capacity building, and strategic partnerships. In June, our advocacy team launched our first peer-to-peer training cohort for new advocacy volunteers in the US. Fourteen volunteers participated and graduated from this four-month program. Throughout the program, participants learned about menstrual health advocacy by completing four comprehensive training sessions and a capstone project which equipped them with the skills to advocate effectively. Volunteers’ dedication and commitment allow us to reach more communities, educate more individuals, and dismantle menstrual stigma on a global scale. Together, we are changing the world, one period at a time. • Days for Girls recently assisted NIDISI, a German organization focused on addressing societal challenges through social businesses, in gathering information for videos they made that detail the overall menstrual context in Nepal. Maya, DfG’s Nepal Country Director, and Lila, DfG’s former Kalikot Project Field Officer, spoke with Nidisi behind the scenes to help them understand the local dynamics of the area in Kalikot. Days for Girls has worked extensively in Kalikot and collected much data in this area over the years. Through our own work there, we know that girls and women face menstrual stigma and often engage in harmful menstrual practices such as Chhapaudi, where the individual must sequester themselves in a small, outdoor shelter for the duration of their period. Our programs in Nepal are ongoing. We believe that all girls and women who menstruate deserve to do so with safety and dignity. Want to learn more about the menstrual context in Nepal?
