While depression is purple, the unmet need for treatment is red, writes Catherine Ettman, PhD for the JPHMP Direct blog. In a divided country, seeking improved mental health care and access to health services could be an area for unity across partisan groups. #PublicHealth #MentalHealth #depression #health https://lnkd.in/eWh-cDQP

Florida's new guidance on mRNA vaccines is misleading and dangerous, according to our president and CEO, Dr. Brian Castrucci. By rejecting the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and FDA, the guidance threatens the health of Floridians, especially the elderly and others with high-risk conditions. See Dr. Castrucci's latest column on Forbes.com.
President & CEO | Tools, Policies, Programs, & Partnerships that Improve Community Health, Drive Conversations, & Set Standards
Last week the Florida Department of Health advised residents to not get the approved mRNA COVID-19 vaccines that have been proven to be safe and effective. Rejecting the science-based recommendations from @CDC and @FDA, this flawed guidance threatens the health and lives of Floridians, especially older adults and other high-risk populations. Every day, scientists, researchers, and other experts gain new knowledge to protect and promote the health of communities, meaning the guidance for some public health recommendations may change. Thrilled to share our recently published paper uplifting the strengths and opportunities for growth among the MCH Workforce using #PHWINS 2021 data. Collaborating with MCH colleagues is always such a pleasure, and I'm looking forward to sharing more insights into the needs of state and local public health workers in the future. More to come with #PHWINS 2024!
Excited to share a recently released publication - The Maternal and Child Health Workforce: A Snapshot of Current and Future Needs From Public Health WINS 2021. This has been a multi-year collaborative effort with colleagues from MCHB, AMCHP, National MCH Workforce Development Center, and de Beaumont Foundation. Prior to the first fielding of PH WINS in 2014, there were limited data and few studies specific to the needs of MCH professionals working in state and local health departments. Understanding the extent to which this workforce has the knowledge, skills, and professional development opportunities to meet current and emerging MCH needs is essential in maintaining a robust workforce to serve MCH populations. Congratulations to my co-authors Julie D., Amy Mullenix, Kay Schaffer, Caroline Stampfel, Lauren Raskin Ramos, Dorothy Cilenti. https://lnkd.in/eWY3c5kh

Mental health care is a non-partisan need that requires bipartisan solutions, writes Brian C. Castrucci, DrPH, MA in a new column on Forbes.com. A new survey found 1 in 4 U.S. adults had symptoms of depression, with no significant differences among Republicans, Independents, and Democrats. Only 38% of Americans with depression symptoms had seen a mental health care provider in the past year, meaning that 62% have needs that aren’t being met. Republicans were more likely to report this unmet need, and the column explores why and what we can do about it. https://lnkd.in/gdgFaGvh #publichealth #mentalhealth #depression #healthcare #politics
