Biotech will unlock a new era of performance in beauty, said Debut founder and CEO Joshua Britton recently at the BOLD Forum in Paris. While sustainability was the initial driver in the shift towards biotech cosmetic ingredients and formulations, superior performance will dominate moving forward, with sustainability as a built-in, integral part of the offering. Biotech beauty is synonymous with potency, purity, performance and safety. Thank you to BOLD, the venture fund of L’Oréal, for a high-value event. #biotechbeauty #biotech #beauty

Debut was honored to participate at Biocom California Institute's 7th annual Life Science Workforce Symposium where Nicholas Brideau participated in a panel discussion about achieving success in today's job market.
What does it take to start a new career in the life science industry and thrive? At Biocom California Institute's 7th annual Life Science Workforce Symposium, nearly 400 attendees in San Diego, Greater Los Angeles and the Bay Area gathered to explore that and hear from experts. This year’s event was simulcast and tailored for job seekers—especially veterans, recent graduates and people from underrepresented populations. The day kicked off with industry insights from Vicki Brannock, Biocom California Institute’s senior director of workforce strategy and innovation. In California, the life science industry has an economic output of $414 billion and employs more than 460,000 people. Many life science jobs do not require a Ph.D. or science background—the range includes marketing to IT and more. Biomanufacturing is a growing sector; computational biology and statistics are also on the rise. Kimberly Samayoa, MBA, gave the keynote address, sharing a powerful story of resilience. After serving in the Navy following high school, she earned a bachelor’s degree later in life. Her career in life science began through a temp agency, but unexpected health issues prompted her to pivot. Today, she has an MBA and leads site operations for Merck in the Bay Area. "The comeback is always greater than the setback,” she said. “Think about who you are and how you will move forward.” Failure is a necessary part of success and should be embraced as an opportunity to learn and improve. A panel discussion offered valuable insights for achieving success in today’s job market. Moderated by Miguel Motta, VP, strategic operations, Biocom California, guest speakers included: Nicholas Brideau, SVP, R&D, Debut; Halle Redfearn, head of product development, Onego Bio; Greg Martin, senior life science specialist, Thermo Fisher Scientific; Tanya Llera DeLong, senior director, quality assurance, Tandem Diabetes Care; and Evan Wahl, director, project management & site strategy, Catalent Pharma Solutions. Tanya highlighted that developing soft skills, a growth mindset and selling yourself are key ways to stand out. Echoing this, Evan added: “You have to put yourself out there. Network and go to every event.” A veteran who served in the Marine Corps, he shared how he transitioned to civilian life and noted Catalent has an employee resource group for veterans. Building face-to-face connections is essential. Halle suggested attending conferences where your target companies are present and Nicholas advised showcasing your transferable skills. The panel unanimously agreed that authenticity and persistence are crucial for achieving success. New this year is Career Hub, our AI-powered job board for life science for both job seekers and companies in need of talent: https://lnkd.in/g-VizAaU We thank our sponsors and everyone who attended! We look forward to continuing the conversation about building a thriving workforce in life science.

With thanks to BeautyMatter and Carla Seipp for speaking to Joshua Britton on the increasing convergence of pharma and beauty. In biotech, advances in skin biology and understanding of key areas like aging and longevity means we can apply a scientific approach to creating solutions that align well with pharmacology, in contrast to naturals or commonly available ingredients such as vitamin C. The benefits to consumers, both now and in the future, are huge.
What happens when pharma meets beauty? The results are transformative. “When you understand biology, that's when you can craft products that better serve it, be it hair or skin repair. This is where pharma has been decades ahead of everything we've done in beauty.” - Suveen Sahib, Co-Founder + CEO, K18 Hair Beauty companies are beginning to apply pharmaceutical level-rigor to development, testing and claims. Pharma companies are reaching new consumers through beauty and wellness. Carla Seipp dives into the merging of pharma and beauty: https://lnkd.in/ewu4zf6A #beautyindustry #pharma #biotech #productdevelopment #biotechbeauty

Welcome to the future of sustainable beauty 🚀 Five years ago, Debut Founder and CEO Joshua Britton came up with a game-changing idea for ingredient development while researching his PhD. Five years later, the company’s approach to ingredient creation is redefining what’s possible for cosmetics. The San Diego-based company’s proprietary biotechnology platform harnesses enzymes to create sustainable, high-performance ingredients for cosmetics that are better for the planet, and superior in quality. That’s where BOLD comes in with key support and collaborative opportunities with L'Oréal. In a recently announced partnership, the two are set to develop over a dozen bio-identical ingredients for beauty and personal care products. This collaboration also prioritizes sustainability by preserving biodiversity and securing responsible supply chains. By keeping its unwavering focus on producing bio-based ingredients at the necessary volume and quality, Debut strategically complements L'Oréal's global R&D efforts. That also entails playing a key role in advancing its L'Oréal for the Future sustainability goals. Through Debut’s unique biomanufacturing processes, cosmetics are not only safer, more effective and even hyper-personalized to consumers’ unique needs; products align with the Group’s environmental commitments, including preserving biodiversity, securing responsible supply chains and promoting a circular economy. At BOLD, we back visionaries like Debut, transforming the beauty industry and defining its future. With Debut and our portfolio companies, we’re not just stepping into tomorrow—we’re shaping it. #FortuneFavorsTheBOLD #CreateTheBeautyThatMovesTheWorld Christophe Babule Laurent SCHMITT Samantha Etienne Muriel ATIAS Tony Khajenouri Julie Pelcener Presca Ahn Adeline Girou Filippo Principi Camille Jaegle Adam R.
