“What if imagination and art are not the frosting at all but the fountainhead of human experience?” – Susan Griss We just wrapped up a week at the dance and the Child international Conference in beautiful Ljubljana, Slovenia. It was a gathering of dancers, scholars, teachers, and children from around the world as well as representatives from Slovenia’s Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture, and the Public Fund for Cultural Activities. What an incredible model for collective visioning and action toward a future where all young people have access to embodied, experiential, and arts-integrated learning. U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis & National Endowment for the Arts Release New Data: "Arts are big business—and a growth industry in the U.S.—according to the annual Arts and Cultural Production Satellite Account report by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) and National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). The nation’s arts and culture sector (nonprofit, commercial, education) was a $1.1 trillion industry in 2022 that supported 5.2 million jobs. That represents 4.3% of the nation’s economy—a larger share of GDP than powerhouse sectors such as Transportation, Construction, Education, and Agriculture. The nation’s arts economy continued to outperform the entire U.S. economy in 2022 (+4.8% vs. +1.9%)." - Americans for the Arts

Excited to share that we have received a Delaware 250 grant to develop a series of in-school artist residencies culminating in a dance performance by Pieces Of A Dream INC and a scholar’s talk. The project aims to foster a deeper understanding of the American Civil Rights era and the impact of MLK’s assassination on the city of Wilmington, ideas that connect with the country’s long struggle to secure the promises of the Revolution. Delaware 250 is a special project of the Delaware Heritage Commission and the Delaware Public Archives that seeks to reflect on and celebrate the plurality of histories within both Delaware and the nation as we approach the 250th anniversary of America’s independence.

Anyone who knows Jonathan Whitney recognizes the singular way he brings his full artist self into all that he does. Treat yourself to his beautiful TEDxWilmington talk about leadership through the eyes of a drummer. https://lnkd.in/eeX-bp-R

The earliest years of a child’s life are critical to preparing them for a lifetime of success in the classroom and beyond. Thank you to the teams at Delaware Association for the Education of Young Children, Rodel, Delaware Head Start Association, Childcare Association of Sussex County, First State Pre-K, Delaware Readiness Teams, and the incredible speakers who shared their expertise at yesterday's Early Childhood Advocacy Day.
