Sleep apnea affects millions and poses serious health risks—like cognitive impairment and memory issues. Effective treatment can be a game changer. For years, CPAP users relied on periodic in-clinic consultations or home visits. This often led to problems being identified too late, impacting health outcomes negatively. That’s why HDM-Breas partnered with Delve to create a new IoT system aimed at boosting adherence and improving health outcomes. We realized that connecting users to their physicians was only part of the solution. Equally important was building user knowledge and confidence. True innovation in medtech begins with empathy. Last week at JeffSolves MedTech Pitch Night, two teams of Thomas Jefferson University students took the stage at our Philadelphia studio to showcase healthcare solutions they’ve spent over a year developing, in partnership with patient experts and clinicians. A human-centered approach delivered solutions that address real user needs: — Team #1 designed Heel Up, a modified crutch with a built-in elevation system. Users with leg injuries can easily transform the crutch into an elevation platform wherever they happen to be, helping to reduce painful swelling as they recover. — Team #2 designed the Commodore, a bedside commode that prioritizes safety, accessibility, and dignity. By listening to real users, the students created a design that fixes six major shortcomings in existing models. Users called it a game-changer.
