✨ I started my 4th year teaching at Bronx Prep on Tuesday, and as always, the first day was full of energy, excitement, and a bit of chaos. Managing the anticipation of new freshmen while navigating the familiar rhythms and angst of returning students (especially the seniors who were babies yesterday) is both challenging and promising.
🎒This year, I’m focused on helping my students break past their established routines by introducing them to systems and atomic habits (James Clear has been going viral as I can see and I’m listening to his book on repeat).
🚀We’re working on small, daily habits that will build into long-term success, and I’m encouraging them to reflect on their own patterns, challenge themselves, and grow.
Here are a few things I’m keeping in mind as we move forward:
🔹 Consistency & Structure: Setting up routines early on to create a solid foundation for growth.
🔹 Growth Mindset: Reinforcing the idea that with effort and persistence, anyone can improve.
🔹 Reflection & Accountability: Encouraging students to look at their habits and refine them for continuous progress.
📚Engaging students isn’t just about teaching content—it’s about fostering habits that will serve them well beyond the classroom. Relational equity will beat any system, but a lack of systems will lead to ruin.
🌱 As we dive deeper into the year, I’m excited to see how these young minds will grow, adapt, and thrive. Here’s to a productive and successful year ahead!
