Native languages are at the heart of Indigenous communities’ cultural identities, knowledge, traditions, spiritual beliefs and self-governance. They are woven inextricably into traditional ways of life and continue to influence modern perspectives. But Native languages in the U.S. face serious threats, with some having no fluent speakers and others in rapid decline. Without action, some Native languages may cease to exist. Interior is committed to Indigenous communities and is working to honor and strengthen our nation-to-nation relationships with Tribes and ensure that Native languages are preserved and protected. #Peopleofinterior - I love working to conserve the threatened and endangered critters I love! What an amazing life I have to be able to get to know such rare creatures and do my part in helping our environment. It is a dream to do something I am so passionate about as a career. I love being able to collaborate with a team of people with the same passion and goals. Being able to do research to answer big questions that help further our goals is so interesting and engaging. Contributing to our conservation of resources is so fulfilling to me, and my job is mentally, physically, and emotionally stimulating for me. I feel like I am exactly where I am meant to be. There truly is no better career out there for me. I love my critters! I am happy to be able to work with accommodations that allow me to be a productive employee with disabilities. Although there is still much work to do to create a safe and healthy environment for people with disabilities in the workplace, I am privileged to work with a supportive team and supervisor. Being able to do a job that includes plenty of outdoor time and time surrounded by nature really helps my mental health and gives me a much better work-life balance. I found a place where I am accepted and can be productive and happy. Desiree Moore is Fish Biologist at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). She works at the Ash Meadows Fish Conservation Facility in Amargosa Valley, Nevada. Desiree graduated from Oklahoma State University. #NDEAM

We’re excited to spotlight not one, but two amazing employees from Upper Colorado Basin's Glen Canyon Dam — Miguel and Cheryl Reyes, who both joined our team last year! Cheryl, an administrative clerk, brings years of experience to the role and has been a tremendous asset. “Every day at Reclamation is a chance to learn something new,” she says. “The family-like atmosphere at Glen Canyon makes it a joy to help my coworkers, whether it's with travel plans or digital signatures.” Miguel started on the maintenance crew, but his 14 years of experience in government procurement soon earned him a transition to construction control rep. He describes his coworkers as “MVPs” and has enjoyed learning more about the powerplant and connecting with contractors at the dam. Together, this newlywed couple embraces their Mexican-American heritage, celebrating the values of hard work, family, and joy. Cheryl shares, “Our kids and grandkids are our sunshine,” while Miguel reflects on the hard work and determination passed down from his parents and grandparents that shaped their family and life. Outside of work, Cheryl is an ordained minister who recently officiated a friend’s wedding, while Miguel DJed the reception — showing they truly are a dynamic duo! Join us in honoring Miguel and Cheryl, not just for their contributions to the Upper Colorado team, but for embodying the spirit of #HispanicHeritageMonth! #Reclamation 📸 Reclamation photos
