In a recent interview with Employee Benefit News, Leadership Consulting President Christine Greybe discussed the critical role of succession planning in the success of new CEOs. Highlighting the increasing number of CEO resignations, Christine notes that leadership changes can impact employee morale, productivity, and even stock prices. She emphasizes the importance of making the right decisions from the start. Succession planning allows leaders to plan a successful transition, pre-identifying metrics and processes to ensure continuity and talent retention. She advises new CEOs to focus on employee upskilling and development to align their vision with the company's goals, reducing the risk of losing talent. “You have to institute a succession journey within your organization," says Christine. "You pre-identify metrics and processes that will allow you to outline what success looks like for different roles throughout the organization. Then, you start to create talent retention." What is the best thing you can do to ensure CEO success? "Start by getting your profile right for your new CEO," says Christine. "What is the strategic intent of your business? What are three to five objectives you're trying to accomplish? Have a very clear understanding of what's required and what the mandate of the [business] is."
